Problem Statement
The aim of project is to analyze the displacement,
vibration of the shock absorber test rig using
accelerometer and to measure the dynamic
characteristics.
Objectives
The main objectives behind the design of shock
absorber are:
To determine dynamic characteristics like
displacement, vibration etc. of automotive
shock absorber system

How do you measure vibration?
Vibration is most commonly measured using a ceramic
piezoelectric sensor or accelerometer.
Accelerometer is a Piezo-electric device and it is considered as the
standard vibration transducer for machine vibration
measurement.
The accelerometers consist of a piezoelectric crystal which has a
mass attached to one of its surfaces.
When the mass is subjected to a vibration signal, the mass
converts the vibration (acceleration) to a force, this then being
converted to an electrical signal.

Figure 1. Accelerometers are versatile sensors used for high
or low frequency vibration as well as shock measurements.

How do accelerometers work?
There are many different ways to make an accelerometer!
Some accelerometers use the piezoelectric effect - they
contain microscopic crystal structures that get stressed
by accelerative forces, which causes a voltage to be
generated.
