Roads
Example – Design Speed

Issue
Measures
• Change in the design speed from
120kph to 80kph at the approach to • Apply speed management strategy.
QEZ3 . • Departure 7 Raised
Example – Horizontal Radius
Issue Measures
• Sharp horizontal curvature on ramps • Provide safety barriers at identified

long straight alignment may cause
drivers to lose control of the vehicles
which may lead to vehicle overturn.

Example – Local Access
Issue Measures
• Direct Connections to the mainline • Provide full entry and exit tapers.
is dangerous for motorists due to
• Safety Barrier between mainline
difference in speed
and CD Roads
Utilities
Example – Groundwater
Issue
• Groundwater levels in Qatar are an issue particular on Orbital Contract 1.
Measures
• To avoid safety and construction issues with working adjacent to standing water, WSPIPB proposed
switching cycle way underpass structures into over-bridge structures. In addition in areas of high
groundwater the adjacent ground levels were in some locations increased in fill
Example – EHV Lines
Issue
• Kahramma Overhead Lines are an issue particular on Orbital Contract 1.

Measures
• To avoid any safety issues associated with the disconnection and removal of these cables it was
imperative that early detailed communication relating to shut down periods happened with
Kahramma Electric. This allowed an early definition in the programme as to when the safest
periods would be to avoid pedestrians and the measures that needed to be in place to ensure the
safety of the workforce
