DEFINING INTERNET OF THINGS

The design and implementation of internet-based

systems and solutions that interact
with the physical environment.

connected devices by 2020

SCALE
Connected devices and IoT
 Connecting devices is not a new phenomenon in itself. IoT as a concept has
been around since 1999, as RFID tags to give real-world objects digital
identities.
 What is new is the way that connected things are becoming integral parts of
solutions to benefit societies, businesses and human lives.
 And it is happening right now because of
 an increasing need for IoT solutions
 organizations, governments and businesses to understand their physical
surroundings in order to increase efficiency, become more sustainable or to
innovate.
Connected devices and IoT
 The conditions have improved in two main ways.
• Developments in technology and networks have brought
• faster processing speeds,
• miniaturization,
• cloud solutions and
• the dawn of big data and data analytics,

• Secondly, decreasing component costs and cheaper ways to collect

data.
