Transport in

humans
By Ananya & Zahra.bori
The transport system of the
body
 The circulatory system is the body's
transport system. It is made up of a group
of organs that transport blood throughout
the body. The heart pumps the blood and
the arteries and veins transport it. Oxygen-
rich blood leaves the left side of the heart
and enters the biggest artery, called the
aorta.
What is transported ? Where it is transported

Oxygen From lungs to all cells for

respiration

Carbon dioxide From all the cells to the lungs in

order to be removed

food From the gut to all the cells for

respiration

Waste product like the urea From all the cells to the kidneys
in order to be removed

Chemical messages From the places where they are

made to the whole body

Repair system of the body To wherever damage takes

place

Defence system of the body To wherever disease causing

organisms have entered the
body
The blood vessels
 The blood vessels are the part of the
circulatory system, and
microcirculation, that transports blood
throughout the human body. These
vessels are designed to transport
nutrients and oxygen to the tissues of
the body. They also take waste and
carbon dioxide and carry them away
from the tissues and back to the heart.
What are arteries ?
 The arteries are the blood vessels that deliver
oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the tissues of
the body. Each artery is a muscular tube lined by
smooth tissue and has three layers
 The largest artery is the aorta, the main high-
pressure pipeline connected to the heart's left
ventricle. The aorta branches into a network of
smaller arteries that extend throughout the body.
The arteries' smaller branches are called arterioles
and capillaries
What are capilleries ?
 Capillariesare tiny blood vessels
connecting arteries to veins. These blood
vessels carry oxygen and nutrients to
individual cells throughout the body. They
have very thin walls so that substances
can be exchanged between the blood
and the tissues very easily.
What are veins ?
 Veins carry blood which is usually loaded
with carbon-dioxide so its dull red and
they do not have any pulse. Veins are
blood vessels that carry blood toward the
heart.
