TATA GROUP BRIEF HISTORY & MISSION


Tata Group is founded by Jamsetji Tata in 1868, the Tata group is a global
enterprise headquartered in India, comprising over 100 independent operating
companies. The group operates in more than 100 countries across six continents

MISSION:- To improve the quality of life of the communities we serve globally,


through long-term stakeholder value creation based on Leadership with Trust'

• Tata Sons is the principal investment holding company a`nd promoter of Tata
companies. Sixty-six percent of the equity share capital of Tata Sons is held by
philanthropic trusts, which support education, health, livelihood generation
and art and culture.

• The revenue of Tata companies, taken together, is ~$100 billion. These


companies collectively employ over 695,000 people. Employing a diverse
workforce in their operations, Tata companies have made significant local
investments in different geographies.

• Each Tata company or enterprise operates independently under the guidance


and supervision of its own board of directors and shareholders. There are 29
publicly-listed Tata enterprises with a combined market capitalisation (India)
of about $144.79 billion (as on March 28, 2018).

The Tata group has been international in its approach to business from its inception. The
Founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, began his business career in international trade in
China and England. The businesses he later established in India measured up to
international standards and used world-class technology. Tata Exports (now Tata
International) was set up in 1962 and currently Tata companies export their products and
services to over 150 countries.

platform for student startups, Tata First Dot
Powered by NEN (National Entrepreneurship
Network) promotes, mentors and showcases

entrepreneurs. Tata First Dot is a collaborative
initiative of the Tata group and the NEN Trust.
CSR programme :- TATA STRIVE

 Tata companies work towards empowering people by helping them


develop the skills they need to succeed in a global economy, which
is now consolidated into a group CSR programme called Tata
STRIVE. The group equips communities with information,
technology and the capacity to achieve improved health, education
and livelihood outcomes. It also works towards enabling other
living things on the planet get their fair share of the resources.

Tata Power wins its first best
CSR community initiative award
Under the ‘livelihood and employability’
category, Tata Power provides employability
training to unemployed BA/BSc/BCom
graduates in association with TCS and provides
employment opportunities at TCS through the
TCS HR team at the end of the training. It is a
first-of-its-kind convergence programme of the
Tata group in Odisha. Training has been
imparted to 1,705 candidates in Odisha; out of
which, 309 candidates have been selected by
the TCS HR team and offered jobs in the
company. Additionally, it also provides
coaching for bank PO/clerk/SSB/CSSB/RRB
exams, etc, and also sets up company-
formulated village development committees in
different locations for providing livelihood
opportunities to farmers, SHG members and
economically poor families.
