This system is basically to distribute the

signal from different satellites to all the TV
points in the building. By installing this
system it will be possible to watch the
channels from these satellites using digital
receiver in each TV point. It is possible to
distribute up to 16 polarities using this system

IF Distribution Advantages

 Most economical SMATV System

 Possible to watch a lot of channels
 Possible to install the PAY TV decoders in each TV
points
 Can subscribe the PAY TV channels individually.
IF Distribution Disadvantages

• No possibility for centralized channel line-up

• Individual tuning of receivers is necessary when
there is some changes in satellite parameters
• Not possible to control the type of channels to be
received. (Any channels coming through the
satellite can be viewed)
• Not possible to distribute any in-house channels
through the system.
• The active components are kept in various location
hence the system will be less reliable & difficult to
maintain.
• RF Distribution System

This is the oldest way of distributing the

channels. As per the system, a head-end
station will be installed and the signal
received from satellite will be converted into
RF channel and will feed to the distribution
network. We can connect the TV directly to
the wall socket and tune the channels.

RF Distribution Advantages

 The channels are tuned in the Head-End station.

Hence specified channel list can be created.
 Possible to distribute the PAY TV channels
through the system
 In-house channels can be added in the system
 No receivers in the rooms hence single remote
for the TV
 The channels can be tuned directly on the TV.
RF Distribution Disadvantages

• The number of channels that are able to

distribute are limited to a maximum of 95
channels.
• The distribution network is analogue hence the
disturbance of local channels and others are
common.
• Due to analogue distribution network, it is not
possible to ensure the same picture quality in the
all the TV’s.
• The HD reception is not possible using this
system.
• Digital Cable TV System

The digital cable TV system utilizes the latest

technology called QAM/COFDM technology. The
digital cable TV system is like an RF system but it
has more advantages than RF system. As per this
system, Head-End station will be installed to
convert the signal received from the satellite to a
QAM/COFDM signal in RF range. This signal will
be distributed to each TV point using the RF
distribution network.
 If the hotel replaces the TV’s with new
digital tuner TV’s then the channels can be
tuned directly in TV’s. Otherwise, a set-top-
box to be installed in each TV point .

Digital Cable TV Advantages

 More number of channels can be distributed through

RF network.
 The Head-End station is located in one place hence
the maintenance will be easy and the system will be
reliable.
 The picture quality in all the TV’s will be perfect
 The HD channel distribution is possible in the system
 The existing RF system can be replaced with this
system without disturbing the hotel operation
 The existing coax network can be utilized,
additional wiring is not needed.
 PAY TV channel can be subscribed and distributed
centrally.
 In-house channel distribution is possible using
this system.
Digital Cable TV Disadvantages

 Interactive services are not possible

 If the TV’s are not having digital tuner then
additional set-top-box are necessary
• IPTV System

This is the advanced and latest TV system

available in the market. This system will have
an IP head-end station which will convert the
signal from the satellite to IP stream and will be
distributed to various TV points using data
network. A Middleware server will be added to
the system to make it possible to add a lot of
interactive services along with TV channels.

 The system is much expensive compared to the

other system
 The existing RF distribution network cannot be
used for this system
 A separate network has to set up for distributing
the signal which may cause interruption to hotel
operation and creates more financial expense.
 The quality of data distribution network will
affect the performance of the system.
