TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE SOCIETY
AND WORLD
• Throughout the entire world, humanity is facing a
serious environmental challenge. Part of this
problem is POPULATION INCREASE, which is
greatest in poor societies. But part of the
problem is also high levels of consumption, which
mark rich nations such as those in Europe and
North America. By increasing the planet’s
environmental deficit, our present way of life is
borrowing against the well-being of our children
and their children.
The answer, in principle, is to form an
ecologically sustainable culture, a way
of life that meets the needs of the
present generation without
threatening the environmental legacy
of future generations.
Sustainable depends on the 3
strategies (Maciones, 2002;2010)
1. Food Distribution
2. Political-Agricultural Practices
3. Environmental Factors
4. Other Economic and Political Resources
Possible Solutions to Food Insecurity
1. Elimination of Poverty
2. Sustainable Agriculture
3. Improving Agricultural Biodiversity
