INTRODUCTION

• The aim of this project is to Automate unmanned railway

gate using Mechatronics.

It deals with two things.

1. Reduction in time for which the gate is kept closed
2. To provide safety due to carelessness of the road users by
reducing the accidents that usually occur.
TYPES OF GATE CONTROL
SYSTEM
Generally the Railway crossings are of two types
1 Manned
2 Unmanned

MANNED:
.A lot of time is wasted due to this particular system.
.Many errors occurs due to manual operation of entire
system
The Automatic railway gate
• The arrival and departure of trains is done by
the sensor set.
• The automatic railway gate has two main
advantages:
• 1.The reduction of time for which the gate is
being kept closed.
• 2.To provide safety for the road users by
reducing the accidents as there is no scope of
human errors in this case.

IR
SENSORS
• Tx1 AND Rx1 Sensors on the track, placed at about 5km from
the gate to detect the train arrival on either directions.

• Tx2 AND Rx2 sensors on the track, placed at about 1km from
the gate to detect the train departure on either directions.

• Buzzer, an audio signal to warn the road user about approach

of train

• MOTOR are used for gate operation.

• Light signal to warn the road user.

• The project consists of four
main parts:

• 8051 microcontroller
• IR Transmitter
• IR Receiver
• Motor
MICRO CONTROLLER

.The Micro controller used in the control

of automatic railway gate control system
is AT89C51.
. It has 4 kilo bytes of Flash Memory and
128 bytes of RAM Memory.
.It uses H-BRIDGE to operate gate
.Senses the obstacle and clears path
IR CIRCUITS
This circuit has two stages: a transmitter unit and a receiver unit.

IR TRANSMITTER: The IR LED emitting infrared light is put on in the

transmitting unit.

IR RECEIVER: The receiver unit consists of a sensor circuitry. In receiver

section, the first part is a sensor, which detects IR pulses transmitted
by IR-LED.
ADVANTAGES
 Prevention of accidents inside the gate.
 Reliable machine
 Battery can be charged through the solar cell
Advantages of the
microcontroller
Cheap
Open source hardware and
software
Easy learning curve
Extensible
SOFTWARE
DESCRIPTION

Keil development tools for the AT89C51

Microcontroller Architecture support
every level of software developer from
the professional applications engineer to
the student just learning about
embedded software development.
FUTURE ENHANCEMENT

.This paper has satisfactory

results for prevention of
accidents inside the gate and
the unnecessary of a gate
keeper .

.The obstacle detection can

be implemented more
efficiently using Fuzzy logic.
As it thinks in different
angles or aspect.
CONCLUSION
Hence the Unmanned railway gates operate
according to the data input from sensors to
microcontroller. First an alarm is triggered and then
the gate is operated.

• Avoids manual errors and provides ultimate safety

to road users.
• Gatekeeper not necessary and automatic
operation of the gate through the motor.
• The mechanism works on a simple principle
