Figure 3.1. Proposed cloud-based IoT architecture for agricultural applications.

APPLICATIONS

 Precision farming can be thought of as anything that makes the farming practice more
controlled and accurate when it comes to raising livestock and growing of crops.
 Precision agriculture is one of the most famous applications of IoT in the agricultural
sector and numerous organizations are leveraging this technique around the world.
 VRI (Variable Rate Irrigation) optimization maximizes profitability on irrigated crop
fields with topography or soil variability, improve yields, and increases water use
efficiency.
 In this approach of farm management, a key component is the use of IT and various items
like sensors, control systems, robotics, autonomous vehicles, automated hardware,
variable rate technology, and so on.
ADVANTAGES

 Fight epidemic diseases by applying the appropriate types and

amounts of fungicides, pesticides and organic fertilizers at the
right times
 Achieve efficient water consumption by watering the plants with
only the needed amount of water and the right time,
DISADVANTAGES

 Faulty sensors or data processing engines can cause faulty decisions

which may lead to over use of water, fertilizers and other wastage of
resources.
 The current IoT systems are not scalable or reliable and the initial
costs are high which the farmers cannot afford.
CONCLUSION
 A cloud-based architecture for IoT precision agricultural applications. It contains
three layers of architecture and explained their implementation details. And have
built a prototype to illustrate the different performance aspects of the proposed
architecture. The preliminary performance evaluation results have demonstrated
the efficiency of the proposed architecture – despite its simplicity. This makes the
proposed architecture a good candidate for implementing a wide set of precision
agriculture systems.
