An article is a word used to modify a

noun, which is a person, place, object,


or idea. Technically, an article is
an adjective, which is any word that
modifies a noun.
Usually adjectives modify nouns
through description, but articles are
used instead to point out or refer to
nouns.

Indefinite articles “a/an” is used
to refer to non-specific or non-
particular nouns.
e.g: a doctor; that is, any doctor.
Definite article “The” is used to
refer to specific or particular
nouns.
e.g: He saw the doctor; means
some particular doctor.
Indefinite a/an are used before
singular nouns.

Definite article “The” is used
before singular countable
nouns, plural countable nouns
and uncountable nouns.
e.g: the book, the books, the
milk etc…

e.g: the sun, the sky, the moon, the ocean, the
earth, the sea
2.Before the names of mountains, rivers, oceans,
deserts etc.
e.g: the Ganges, the Sahara, the Pacific
3.Before the names of certain books
