Disadvantage :-
They give more rapid response to the change of load since the
displacement of governor balls is determined by the rate of
change of speed of engine shaft, however it is not possible to
achieve the complete balance of revolving parts of inertia

TERMS USED IN GOVERNORS
Equilibrium speed:
The speed at which governor balls, sleeve etc. are in complete
equilibrium and there is no upward or downward movement of the sleeve
on the spindle.
Sleeve Lift:
It is the vertical distance travelled by the sleeve on the spindle due to
change in equilibrium speed.
Height of Governor:
It is the vertical distance from the centre of the balls to
a point on the spindle axis where the axes of arms
intersect.
Radius of rotation:
It is the horizontal distance between the centre of
governor ball and the axis of rotation.
Stability:
A governor is said to be stable when there is one radius of
rotation of the balls for each speed which is within the speed
range of the governor.
Hunting :
A governor is said to be hunt if the speed of the engine
fluctuates continuously above and below the mean speed.
Higher the sensitiveness of the governor, the problem of
hunting becomes more acute.
Isochronisms:
A governor is said to be ‘Isochronous’ when the
equilibrium speed is constant for all radii of rotation of the balls within
the working range. Therefore, for an isochronous governor the speed
range is zero and this type of governor shall maintain constant speed.
Sensitivity:
A governor is said to be sensitive when it readily
respond to a small alteration of speed.
