INTRODUCTION

Groundwater is the major source of water for domestic,

agricultural and industrial purposes in many countries. India
accounts for 2.2% of the global land and 4% of the world water
resources and 16% of the world population.
It is estimated that one third of the world's population use
groundwater for drinking. Therefore, water quality issues and its
management options need to be given greater attention in the
developing countries.
OBJECTIVES
• To find the physical and chemical parameters of
groundwater samples.
• To compare obtained results with BIS.
• To find out its suitability for drinking, domestic, irrigation
purposes.
• To give recommendation to this area
STUDY AREA

• STUDY AREA : ATIGRE VILLAGE

(Kolhapur district,Maharashtra)
• LATITUDE : 160 74’ 26’’ N to 160 74’ 07’’ N

• LONGITUDE : 740 35’ 41’’ E to 740 37’ 05’’ E

MAP OF STUDY AREA OF
ATIGRE
METHODOLOGY
• Samples collected: 8 dug well, 16 Bore well, 1
surface water samples in pre and post-monsoon
seasons.
• Water sample were analyzed with the procedures
given by Lab manual of environment and
compare with BIS.
• Parameters: PH ,EC, Total hardness,Total
alkalinity,TDS, Ca, Mg, Na, HCO₃,
Turbidity,CO₃, SO₄ and Cl
• Analysis of result.
• Giving recommendation.
SAMPLE COLLECTION
TEST ON WATER SAMPLES
Samples were analyzed by the following chemical parameters by
experimental analysis.
• Test for PH
• Test for Alkalinity.
• Test for Conductivity.
• Test for Turbidity.
• Test for Total Hardness.
• Test for TDS
• Test for Sulphate
• Test for Chlorine.
TEST ON WATER SAMPLES
RESULT OF PRE-MONSOON
RESULT OF POST MONSOON
DISCUSSION OF RESULT

• Piper-trilinear diagramme
• Gibbs plot diagramme
• U.S. Salinity diagramme
GIBBS PLOT DIAGRAMME

• PRE-MONSOON SEASON
GIBBS PLOT DIAGRAMME

• POST-MONSOON SEASON
• The Gibbs variation diagrams of pre and post-
monsoon seasons suggest the chemistry of
groundwater is controlled by rock dominance
PIPER-TRILINEAR DIAGRAMME
PRE-MONSOON SEASON
PIPER-TRILINEAR DIAGRAMME

• POST-MONSOON SEASON
Pipers Trilinear diagrams

• Pipers Trilinear diagrams indicate that, the

100% samples of pre and post-monsoon
seasons represent Ca + Mg > Na + K (alkaline
earths exceed alkalies) and 100% water
samples belongs to HCO3 + CO3 < Cl + SO4
(weak acid exceed strong acid) hydro chemical
facies.
U.S. SALINITY DIAGRAMME
• PRE-MONSOON SEASON
U.S. SALINITY DIAGRAMME

• POST-MONSOON SEASON
• On the basis of U.S. Salinity diagram
groundwater samples pre-monsoon and post-
monsoon fall in C2 –S1 field. The water
sample shows result of low to medium
salinity hence water is suitable for irrigation
purpose.
CONCLUSION

• On the basis of Piper Trilinear diagram, chemical quality

of water Samples represents Ca +Mg > Na+K (alkaline
earths exceed alkalies) and HCO3 +CO3> Cl+SO4 (weak
acid exceed strong acid) hydrochemical facies.
• On the basis of U. S. Salinity diagram, suggesting good
to moderate water quality for irrigation purposes.
• The Gibbs variation diagram suggests the chemistry of
groundwater is controlled by rock dominance
• On the basis of these result we conclude that water is
suitable for the irrigation & domestic purpose.
RECOMMENDATION
• Bore no. 08 was taking remedy after analyzing
the water sample during the project.
• We distribute the analyzed result to the
concerned owner of the bore or well.
