Linking sentences using
‘because, however and although’
Because
Because is used to give a reason for something. We
don’t need to use a comma before because.

Each replacement part is unique because it is made to

fit an individual precisely.

• However
• However is used to present a contrast with an idea in
a previous sentence. It therefore begins a new
sentence that contrast with previous one. However is
followed by a comma, it is more formal than but.

• They assured us that the parts would be of the

highest quality. However, that proved not to be the
case.

• Although
• Although is used to make a concession. It can either
link two clauses within one sentence or can appear
at the beginning of the sentence to introduce two
contrasting ideas or situations.

• The scheme will be successful, although it will take

time.

Match some manufacturing process

5/20/2019 KUS1201_English 2_Week13_MPR 10

Sequence the manufacturing process
Procedures:
• The check valve is made
from cast iron. First, the
part is cast. The cast iron is
then turned. Next, the holes
are drilled in for the flanges.
After drilling, the next step
is painting. When the paint
is dry, the parts are bolted
together. The final step is
inspection. This is when we
make sure the part has
been made properly.
