authorized use of vehicle by the driver/s.

Loss of management system during vehicle renting

Fuel loss and high risk of accident

Objective
• Main objective

The main aim of this project is to design and

Prototype Arduino based vehicle tracking system
using GPS and GSM.
• Specific objectives
To collect, study and investigate data about the system

To design and develop Arduino Code for GPS and GSM tracking systems.

To design the integrated circuit diagram of GPS and GSM tracking system
using Proteus.

To come with our own hardware of GPS and GSM tracking system.

To check for signal operation.

To install the Vehicle Tracking System to the targeted vehicle.

System Design and Components
System Components
Hardware components
• Power Supply
• Arduino UNO R3
• Liquid Crystal Display
• GSM Modem
• GPS Module
• MAX232
• RS232
Power Supply
• It is an electrical device that supplies electric
power to an electrical load. We will use an
adaptors that provide an output of about +5
volt DC power supply from the Car Battery.
Arduino UNO R3
• It was founded by Massimo Banzi and David
Cuartielles in 2005.
• Here in this system micro controller used is AT89S52.
• This particular micro controller is chosen because the
experiment requires minimum of 8-bit micro
controller. This microcontroller contains 4Kb flash
memory inbuilt in it, this memory is enough to dump
our code in to the microcontroller.
Liquid Cristal Display
• A type of alphanumeric or graphic display based on
liquid crystals. LCDs are available in a many sizes,
shapes, and styles. In our project we used 16x2 LCD
display
• A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat panel display,
electronic visual display, or video display that uses the
light modulating properties of liquid crystals
GSM Modem
• GSM is a cellular network, which means that mobile
phones connect to it by searching for cells in the
immediate vicinity. GSM networks operate in four
different frequency ranges. Most GSM networks operate
in the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz bands
• It allows transmission of basic data services like SMS
(Short Message Service). Another advantage is its
international roaming capacity, allowing the users to
access the same services even when travelling aboard
GPS Module
• A GPS navigation device is a device that accurately
calculates geographical location by receiving information
from GPS satellites.
MAX232
• The MAX232 is an IC, first created in 1987 by Maxim
Integrated Products, that converts signals from an RS-
232 serial port to signals suitable for use in TTL
compatible digital logic circuits. The MAX232 is a dual
driver/receiver and typically converts the RX, TX, CTS and
RTS signals
RS232
• In telecommunications systems used today RS-232 is a
standard for serial communication transmission of data.
It formally defines the signals connecting between a
DTE (data terminal equipment) such as a computer
terminal, and a DCE (data circuit-terminating
equipment, originally defined as data communication
equipment), such as a modem.
Software Components and
Description
Arduino Software
• The Arduino Integrated Development Environment -
or Arduino Software (IDE) which contains a text
editor for writing code, a message area, a text
console, a toolbar with buttons for common
functions and a series of menus. It connects to the
Arduino and Genuine hardware to upload programs
and communicate with them.
Proteus Software

• The Proteus Design Suite is an Electronic Design

Automation (EDA) tool including schematic capture,
simulation and printed circuit boards (PCBs) Layout
modules. We use this software for simulation of our
system. Schematic capture in the Proteus design
suite is used for both the simulation of designs and
as the design phase of a PCB layout project. It is
therefore a core component and is included with all
product configurations
