Introduction
National Institute of Science & Technology

• HANDOFF is the key operation in cellular mobile communication

systems which is accomplished by the system and is imperceptible for the
user

• Handoff is defined as the process of changing the current radio channel to

a new radio channel which mainly takes place

• The dimension of microcell reduces in order to increase the capacity

causes the handoff to increase.

• Thus the handoff decision taking time reduces.

[3]
Objective
National Institute of Science & Technology

• Our aim is to find the slope of Received power v/s distance of a handoff
in mobile communication.

• For better accuracy and without disruption to any cell.

[4]
Tools and Technology Used
National Institute of Science & Technology

• Software necessary: MATLAB.

• Fuzzy logic in handoff is to be designed using MATLAB.

• Received power formula of handoff is to be implemented with the help of

MATLAB.

Literature Review
National Institute of Science & Technology

• Wireless communication is a type of data communication that is perform

and delivered wirelessly.

• Cell is in the shape of hexagon where signal can be transferred .

[6]
Project done so far

• Propagation measurement in mobile radio channel shows

that average received signal strength at any point decreases.

• And received power of a transmitter or antenna is calculated

by :
Pr = Po {d/do} ^-n.
Or
Pr(dBm) = Po(dBm)-10nlog(d/do).

[7]
National Institute of Science & Technology

• Where Po is transmitted power and Do is a distance from the

transmitting antenna to the close interference point. And N is
the path loss exponent.

• For N=2

[8]
National Institute of Science & Technology

For N=3
For N=4

[9]
Future work
National Institute of Science & Technology

• Independent of received signal strength of neighbouring base

station.

• If the signal from neighbouring station is low so then any call

is dropped.

• Indeed fast handoff response can be obtained with the fuzzy

algorithm.

• So, Fuzzy logic should be implemented in the process of

handoff communication.
