BRITISH INFLUENCE ON BERMUDA

We believe it has numerous benefits; helping students to

focus on their work and their activities while at school,
encouraging positive social interaction amongst pupils
and even making life a little easier for parents.

Bermuda shorts were originally borrowed in the early

20th century from the British military's uniform for hot
climes. Over the years, they’ve become a real fashion
statement on and off the island.

The sport Cricket originated in south-
east England, it became the country's
national sport in the 18th century and
has be came more popular in he later
centuries. International cricket games
have been played since 1844.
SPORTS
Rugby
William Webb Ellis a student at Rugby School,
picked up the ball and invented rugby. This
sport started the evolution of the modern
game of American football (rugby origins). In
December16 - March 3, 1883 First Home
Nations Championship between England,
Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Football
One of he worlds most popular game
has been created more than 100 years
ago. This sport began in 1863 in
England, when rugby football and
association football branched off on
their different courses and the Football
Association in England was formed -
becoming the sport's first governing
body.

The Royal Bermuda Regiment (RBR), formerly the
Bermuda Regiment, is the home defense unit of the
British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. They are also
highly influenced by the british by their outfits, the type of
music they play, and the structure of the band

The British have influenced us with musical
instruments such as: pianos and violins so much
that it has become a major part of our schools
curriculum. For example, the ABRSM music
exam.

 HISTORY
The Dockyard was home to warships, dreadnoughts and frigates
for the british army.
Bermuda is dotted with historic fortifications that kept the island
safe from invaders. One of the most formidable is Fort St.
Catherine. Constructed in 1614.

Royal Naval Cemetery is also known as The Glade is located at the

start of dockyard for those that died in WWII for the soldiers that
fought in the mid Atlantic against German war ships.
 ARCHITECTURE
Bermuda architecture meshes British influence with island
style. This results in churches built of native stone, pastel
cottages with water views and, everywhere, whitewashed
stepped roofs.

CONCLUSION
• Based on my research I have learnt new ways on how Bermuda has been influenced by
Britain such as the violin and piano. I always thought that our music selection was based
off of the American influence.
