NANDANAM SCHOOL AUROVILLE
IT IS A KG SCHOOL IN AUROVILLE WHERE THE CHILDREN FROM AGE GROUP 3-6.5 YEARS ARE ALLOWED
TO STUDY THERE. HERE THE STUDENTS ARE NOT FORCED TO STUDY A PERTICULAR SUBJECT RATHER
THEY ARE LEFT FREE TO STUDY THE TOPIC THEY WANT.
RELATION OF THE SPACES WITH
LEARNING AND PSYCHOLOGY
BEHIND THE SPACES
1. THE DRAWING CLASSROOM : ALL SIDES OF THE ROOM WERE COVERED WITH
CANVAS. SO THE STUDENTS ARE ONLY TAUGHT
HOW TO USE COLOURS .RATHER THEY ARE NOT ASKED
DRAW A PERTICULAR THING .

STUDENTS ARE LEFT FREE TO DRAW ANYTHING


ANYWHERE AND ANY MEDIUM THEY WANT .

STUDENTS ARE LEFT FREE TO OPEN UP THEIR MINDS


AND DRAW WHATEVER THEY WANT TO DRAW .

HERE PAINTING WAS DONE WHILE STANDING TO


PROVIDE A BETTER PHYSICAL MOVEMENT

EXPRESSING OWN IDEAS MAKE THE STUDENTS FEEL


HAPPY.

IT ALSO SHOWED WHAT IS ACTUALLY THERE IN


STUDENTS MIND.
2. STUDY FROM SAND TO BOOKS :
AT EARLY STAGES STUDENTS ARE NOT FORCED WITH
NOTEBOOK AND PEN.

RATHER STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO LEARN ON SAND


AND FEEL FREE TO LEARN.

IT REMOVES THE BOUNDATION ON STUDENTS TO


COPY LETTERS ON NOTEBOOK.

STUDENTS ARE AKSED TO DRAW ON SAND


AND WHATEVER THEY LEARN FROM IT THEY
WRITE IN THEIR NOTEBOOK.

ATLEAT ONE SAND GARDEN IS ATTACHED TO EACH


CLASSROOM.
3. BAG REMOVING SPACES:
AT THE ENTRANCE GATE BAG REMOVING SPACE IS
PROVIDED AS THE STUDENTS CAN REMOVE THEIR
BAGS OUTSIDE ONLY AND FEEL FREE FROM THE
BURDEN OF BAGS .

4. MARKING OF CENTRE IN EVERY ROOM :

IN THE FLOORING PATTERN OF EVERY ROOM CENTRE


OF EACH AND EVERY ROOM IS MARKED WITH A
DIFFERENT PATTERN TO HIGHLIGHT THE CENTRE.

THIS WAS DONE TO MAKE IT EASY WHILE SITTING


OR STANDING IN A CIRCLE .
5. WIDE CORRIDORS:
ALL THE CORRIDORS MEETING TO COURTYARD ARE
VERY WIDE IN ORDER TO GIVE A FEELING OF
BAZAR KIND OF THING INSTEAD OF SCHOOL.

6. CIRCULAR COURTYARD PLANNING :


HERE STUDENTS ARE FREE TO STUDY WHATEVER SUBJECT
THEY WANT TO STUDY .

SO TO KEEP CHECK OVER THE STUDENTS SHOULD NOT MOVE


OUT WHILE PLAYING/STUDYING.
7. SAME CLASSROOM DIFFERENT HEIGHTS:
IN CLASSROOMS DIFFERENT HEIGHTS OF ROOFS ARE PROVIDED.

HEIGHTED PART GIVES A FEELING OF OPENNESS WITH BIG WINDOWS, AND ALSO PROVIDES A MOOD FOR
PLAY .

RATHER THE SHORT HEIGHTED PART GIVES COZYNESS TO THE SPACE WITH SMALL WINDOWS .

IF ANY STUDENTS DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY AND RATHER CONCENTRATE ON HIS/HER STUDY CAN GO TO
THAT AREA AND CONTINUE WITH STUY
8. CIRCULAR PUNCTURES IN THE WALL : IN WALL CIRCULAR PUNCTURES ARE PROVIDED
IN ORDER TO COMPLETELY BLOCK THE VISION
OF SPACES .

CIRCLE IS THE MOST STABLE STRUCTURE OF ALL


OF THE GEOMETRIC SHAPES SO IT HAS BEEN USED
HERE.

ALSO CIRCLE IS THE SHAPE WHICH GIVES A FEELING


OF HARMONY, OR SOOTHING FEELING TO THE MIND.
RATHER CORNER SHAPES GIVE A FEELING OF
STOPNESS TO THE FLOW .
9. EXPOSED OUTER FACADE:
THE FAÇADE IS PROVIDE EXPOSED SO THAT STUDENTS CAN
FEEL THE TEXTURE .

EXPOSED STRUCTURE GIVE A NATURAL FEEL OR OPENNESS


TO THE STUDENTS AND EXPLORE THE STRUCTURE.

10. PLASTERED/PAINTED INNER STRUCTURE :


THE INNER WALLS OF THE CLASSROOM ARE PLASTERED
AND PAINTED IN ORDER TO MAKE STUDENTS FOCUS
MORE ON STUDY RATHER THAN EXPLORING THE STRUCTURE.
