What is a pronoun?

- it is a word that takes


the place of a noun.
Ex.
Pia Wurtzbach is Miss Universe 2015. She is
indeed beautiful.
Types of Pronouns
First person singular pronouns:
- I, me, mine, myself
First person plural pronouns:
- we, us, our, ourselves

Second person:
- you, yours, yourself
Third person singular:
(Male examples) - he, him, his,
himself

(Female examples) - she, her,


hers, herself

Third person plural:


- they, them, theirs,
themselves.

AGREEMENT
An antecedent is…
- a word that replaces the
pronoun. In other words, it
gives meaning to the
pronoun.
Ex.
1. Joshua Macalam picked up
his report card.
2. Rhaizza ate stake after she
went home.

3. The garbage men worked


hard. They wanted to make
the city clean.
• OUR = US
• YOU = ?
• IT = FATES
Incorrect: Our fates is within us.
You just have to be brave
enough to see it.

Better: Our fates are within us.


We just have to be brave
enough to see it.
• SOMEONE = THEIR
• YOU = YOURS

Incorrect: Don’t
let someone who gave up
on their dreams talk you out of
yours.

Better: Don’t let someone who gave up


on his or her dreams talk you out
of yours.
MIND BLOWN
Remember these simple rules…
1. A pronoun must agree with
its antecedent in number,
gender, and person.

2. A singular pronoun must


correspond to a singular
antecedent
3. A plural pronoun must refer
to a plural antecedent.

4. Pronouns that refer to male


or female must refer to the
correct gender.
5. If two antecedents are
joined by the word “and,”
use a plural pronoun.
Ex. Rey and Roy are brothers. They are musicians.

6. If it is “or/nor,” then use a


singular pronoun.
Ex. Either Rey or Roy can play his guitar on the set.
Let’s practice. Locate the pronoun and the antecedent.
1. If students want to return a book to the
bookstore, they must have a receipt.

2. Many of the people rose form their seats.

3. Joe, these potatoes are great. Where did you


buy them?

4. Andrew loves to play basketball. He takes the


position of a point guard.

5. Engineers play a big role to our society. They are


known to build bridges, houses and tall buildings.
6. A policemen should be attentive. Their duty is to
protect people.

7. The ball should be inflated correctly so it could


bounce well.

8. Giulia and Zoue are bestfriends, they even grew up


together in a small town.

9. The truck is in a bad shape after it collided with


another vehicle.

10. Arnold promised to do his responsibilities as a


student.
Answer the following in a ¼ sheet of paper. Write

I. Choose the correct pronoun in each sentence.
