Introduction

 Recreation is an act of diversion : an act that diverts


, amuses, refreshes or stimulates the mind , body
and soul. It is an activity that renews the health and
spirits by enjoyment and relaxation. Recreation is a
form of activity therapy used in most psychiatric
setting. Recreational therapy is the effective use of
recreational activities as a form of treatment for
persons who are physically, mentally or emotionally
disabled
Definition

It is one of the greatest way to improve “quality of


life and quality of care for someone with a
disability at a time when he or she often believe
their life is over” because of disability
The principle of “ learning by doing "is used in
recreational therapy.
CLASSIFICATION OF
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

1) Motor form:
 these can be further divided into fundamental and
accessory.
 Fundamental forms are such as hockey and football,
throw ball, volley ball, basketball.
 Accessory forms are exemplified by play activity and
dancing .

2) The sensory forms:


 The sensory form such as looking at motion
pictures, play, etc or auditory such as listening to
a concert
3)The intellectual forms :
 it include reading, debating etc.

I. Goal games: e.g hide and seek


II. Team game, e.g hockey and football, Tennis,
badminton ,basket ball.
III. Country sports, e.g shooting, fishing
IV. Curiosity play, e.g crossword puzzles
