BACKGROUND

• Mary is an important figure in the New Testament as she knew
Jesus best
• Mary’s gaze never left Jesus and so through her we wonder how
Jesus looked at different times in his life
• The Rosary is sometimes called ‘the prayer of the heart’ and can
be a form of meditative prayer
• October is considered the ‘month of the Rosary’
• The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is on October 7th
STRUCTURE
• The current form of the Rosary is a good summary of the
Gospels
• The joyful mysteries – the birth and life of Christ
• The sorrowful mysteries – the Passion of Christ
• The glorious mysteries – the Resurrection
• The luminous mysteries – significant moments in Jesus’
public ministry
TASK
• Choose one of the mysteries to summarise.
What are the stories?
Why are they joyful, sorrowful, luminous or glorious?

HOW TO PRAY

1.Hold the cross and pray the Apostles Creed

2.Hold the first large bead and pray the Our Father
3.For the next three beads, pray a Hail Mary each
4.Pray the Glory Be
5.Announce the mystery for reflection. Pray the Our Father
6.Pray 10 Hail Mary
7.Finish the decade with a Glory Be
8.Repeat 5, 6 and 7 for each decade
APOSTLES’ CREED
