Critical pain is a sudden and
unexpected event and endangers lives
for patients and families who threaten a
stable state.
Stress and disease are effects
of critical conditions on
patients.
Critical patients
according to AACN
(American Association of
Critical Nursing) are
defined as patients at high
risk for actual or potential
life-threatening health
problems. The more
critically ill the patient has,
the more likely it is to be
very vulnerable, unstable

Family Response To Critical Patient
Conditions

The stimulus or stimulation here consists of

4 main elements, namely: illness, disease,
health and environmental service systems.
Related to the family response to family
members who are treated in intensive
space, families often feel stressed or
anxious.
According to Mc. Adam, et al
(2008), in a critical area the family
has several roles, namely:
1. active presence
2. protector
3. facilitator
4. Historian
5. coaching
Family Stress Theory
Family response to the stress felt when
facing family members gets critical care,
can be explained through Hill Family
Stress. The theory is known as the ABCX
model.
. The ABCX framework has two parts.
First is a statement relating to family crisis
determinants: A (related events and
difficulties) interacting with B (Source dealing
with family crisis) that interacts with C (a
definition made by the family about the event)
produces X (crisis).
Koping Family

Family coping is an active process when families

utilize existing family resources and develop new
behaviors and resources that will strengthen
family units and reduce the impact of stressful
life events. Family coping strategies when dealing
with stress can be done through seeking social
support (Nurhadi, 2014).
