System
What is PDMS?

• 3D multi-discipline design software

• Creates full size representations of real
world objects
• Catalogue and Spec driven
• Multi-user database system
• Space management
• Clash free designs
• Cost efficient
• Project deliverables generated from the
model
Output available from PDMS

PDMS Modules - ADMINISTRATION

• Builds project structure

– Users
– Teams
– Databases
– Multiple Databases
• Check Database Integrity
• Reconfigure databases
PDMS Modules - DESIGN

• Main data input module

– View databases graphically
– Create new designs
– Modify existing designs
– Add to and delete from designs
• Interrogate data
• Interactive clash checking
• Specialist applications to assist designers
PDMS Modules - DRAFT

• 2D drawing production
– Not a 2D drafting system
• Drawings created from Design database
• Produce standard engineering drawings
• Complex perspective and sectional views
• Dimension, label and annotate drawings
• Change Design, update Draft
• Automatic Drawing production (ADP)
PDMS Modules - ISODRAFT

• Production of Piping and Cable Tray Isometrics

• Fabrication, erection or combined isometrics
• Bill of Materials
• Weights
• Drawings cannot be edited, new version
generated
PDMS Modules – PARAGON / SPECON

• Create and modify catalogues and

specifications for:
– Piping
• elbows, flanges, tees, valves, etc.
– Nozzles
– Structural
• profiles, fittings, joints & penetrations
– Cable Trays
• bends, tees, risers, fixed length tray, etc.
• Catalogues contain components
• Specifications filter information
PDMS Modules - PROPCON

• Properties database
– Data for calculation and analysis
• Material properties
– Density
– Young’s Modulus
– Expansion coefficient
• Component data
– Weight
– Wall thickness
– Corrosion allowance
PDMS Modules - LEXICON

• Allows creation of User Definable Attributes

• UDA’s enable users to store additional data
against database elements
• For example:
– :MANUF
– :FLOWRATE
– :kW
– :STATUS

PDMS DRAFT – LABELS
Label types:
- general label  text
- symbol label  text and primitives
PDMS DRAFT – LABELS
Label characteristics:

1. Label attachment point: 2D design element

origin to which the label is attached to

2. Label origin: placement position of the label

3. Label Position: 2D position of the label in the

view

4. Leader line: line from the connection point to

the label position

5. Leader line connection point: start of the

leader line
