While converting ideas from brain into written form, teacher has to
make sure all of his students pass the criteria of good writing.

Acording to ( Harmer 2002: 69) there are various number of writing
tasks that students can be asked to undertake and one of them can be
given a series picture which tell story and they have to write story
based on pictures. He then adds that giving the students sequence
pictures as the writing task will incite them to be creative writers.

Wright (182-187) states : “ A picture sequences tend to range from four

to eight pictures that shows some events in a chronological order. It
can illustrate a story or a process”
1. A thesis by Noor Faizah ‘ Implementing Sequence Picture to Improve
Students’ Ability in Writing Narrative Text for Grade X of MAN LAB
UIN Yogyakarta in the Academic Year 2013/2014. Shows that
sequence picture can be good media to use in ELT process. From
the result of the research, students can elevate their ability in making
Narrative text when using sequence picture as media.

2. A thesis by Rosya Kurniati‘ The Effectiveness of Using Pictures on

Students’ Writing of Recount Text’ An Experimental Study at the
Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 9 Kota Tangerang Selata. In this

SUBJECT SETTING

 The subject of the research was  The writer carried out the research
in IX-5 class of SMP Negeri 216
ninth graders of SMPN 216 Jakarta. It is located at Jalan
Jakarta The teacher Salemba Raya No.18, Central
Jakarta. The English teacher is
recommended IX-5 as the subject. Dra. Hj. Euis Sartika, M.Pd. This
school has 45 teachers and 4
The total number of the students
teachers of English. It has 9
of this class consisted of 22 male classes in VII grade, 9 classes in
VIII and 9classes in IX, so there
students and 14 females. are 27 classes. The writer did the
research on September to
Oktober 2017.
Pre-Cycle
the researcher starts to observe the teaching learning process in
class
Cycle I

Planning Prepare the material, make lesson plan

Acting - Opening greeting and check the attendant list.

- Whilst activities giving the material using Picture Sequence
Media.
- Discussing the material and giving student’s worksheet

Observing The collaborator observes the students’ activities in the class by

using observation sheet duringteaching learning process.

Reflecting The researcher will evaluate the progress of the students and
classroom activity based on questionnaire and observation sheet.
Cycle II
Planning The researcher revises the lesson plan that has been
made in cycle I and make the different topic.
Acting The procedure of activities is almost similar with
the first cycle, but the researcher carries out in
different topic.
Observing The collaborator will observe the first activity of
students’ learning process by using an observation
sheet.
Reflecting Reflection will do to know improving students’
reading skill of analytical exposition text and
changing of students’ activeness after the students
follow learning activity.
1. Non - Test
 Observation
 Documentation

2. Test
 The test is in the form of writing test. The students choosed
one of three picture sequence availabled. Then, they should
create procedure text based on the pictures in correct order.
 Quantitative Data - It is taken from the test result in Pre-Cycle,Cycle I,
and Cycle II and The data obtained students’ scores, calculating scores
from all aspects and calculating mean scores.

 Qualitative Data - The data are taken and discussed from the observation,
questionnaire and documentation.
1. Students can get the minimum passing grade of 78

2. Those who get the minimum passing grade is a least 75%

3. 75% students engage in the procedure text writing class.

 The Pre-test was conducted on October 29, 2017. The
average score from the pre-test ws 69.47. It belongs to
Fair Category. There are eighteen students who got
score under 70. Some of them are above 70. This result
was lower than standart minimum of 78.
The researcher conducted the post-test on 6th October
2017 to measure how the students’ ability in writing of
procedure text that had been studied.
The average score from Cycle I test was 74.44, It belongs
to Good Category. All of the students got the score above
70. There are 9 students who got above minimum criteria
and 27 students who got the score under KKM 78, but
there is an improvement students’ ability after the
researcher taught using picture sequence.
The average scores in Cycle II is 79.69 and it belonged into
good category. They increased their classroom average
score from 74.44 became 79.69. All of students got very
good category reached 100%. The students who got above
minimum criteria of 78 also increase from 9 become 21
students. It can be pointed that in Cycle II students’ skill in
writing procedure text had improved.
 The researcher compared the result of Pre-Cycle, Cycle I test, and
Cycle II to know the improvement of stidents’ skill in writing procedure
text. The improvement can be seen in table below:
