Media Portofolios

Media?
 From the latin medium, pl. Media.
 Is one that is used to refer to all media in which an idea or message can be
transmitted.
 (Newspaper, television, radio, internet, a teacher, etc).
Portofolios?
• Etimologically : - Port (abbreviation of report).
- Folio means full or complete.
Portofolios is a full/complete report of all activities do by someone (Erman
S. A., 2003 in Cartono and Nahadi, 2007).
• Collection of students’ work that illustrates growth over a period of time.
• Portofolios often include such as artefak.
Portofolios allow students to do the following :
• Gather, organize, and share information;
• Analyze relationships;
• Test hypotheses;
• Communicate the result effectively;
• Record a variety of performances;
• Reflect on their learning acticivities;
• Emphasize their goals, outcomes, and priorities;
• Demonstrate their creativity and personality.
Portofolios contain the following artifacts :
• Written documents such as poems, strories, or research papers.
• Media presentation such as slide sets.
• Audio recording of panel discussions or oral presentation, etc.
Assessment of Portofolio?
• Is to masure students’ achievements by their ability to create tagible product
exemplifying their accomplishment in terms of analysis, syntheses, and
evaluation.
• Self-reflection actively involves student in assessing their own learning and
actively promotes reflection on their work and abilities.
How to Develop Media Portofolios :
• Many differen skills and techniques are needed to produce an effective potofolios.
Students need model of portofolios as well as examples of how others develop and
reflect on them.
• Student should be involved in selecting the pieces to be included in their
portofolios.
• A portofolio should covey the following : rasionale (purpose for forming the
portofolio), intents (its goals), contain (the actual display), standards (what are good and
not-so-good performances), and judgments (what the contant tell the viewer)
• Portofolio should contain examples that illustrate growth.

• Student self-reflection and self-evaluation can be promoted by having students ask
themselves the following question : What make this my best work? How did I go
about creating it? What problems did I encounter? What makes my best piece
different from my weakness piece?
• Date all pieces so that viewer may note progress over time.
• Students should regulary be given time to read and reorganize their portofolios.
• The portofolio should be organized, inviting, and manageble. Plan a storage system
that is convenient for both you and your student.
• Student should be aware of the criteria used for evaluating the portofolio.
Electronic Portofolios
Electronic Portofolios?

• Are a means of organizing, designing,


and viewing traditional styles of
portofolios.
• They are way of assessing students using
technology.
Advantages of Using Electronic Portofolios :

• Expand the size of the audience to include other teachers, principles, parents, and
students.
• Open the size of the audience to the world.
• Students become more motivated by the larger audience.
• Student have the opportunity to be creative and exibhit their interests and hobbies.
• It is easier to satisfy the continual need to add to and update.
• Exp : Photos, video clips, audio recordings, animation, scanned drawings and
writings, and hypertext make creating the portofolio more fun and interesting.
Thematic Portofolios
Thematic Portofolios?
• Is a learning based on theme which is selected and agreed by students’ will.
• Emphesize the suitability of the theme having from the crriculum in 3
aspects :
• Kognitive;
• Affection;
• Psychomotor.
How to Develop Thematic Units :
• Select a theme that involves a variety of areas.
• Provide content and skills learning in each units.
• Incorporate a variety of media and methods.
• Include meaningful learner activities.
• Make your thematic unit the proper size of your students and the topics.
Distance Education
Distance Education?
• Is the separation of intractional team and student(s) during the learning
process. As a consequance, the course content must be delivered by
intructional media. The media maight include audio cassettes, videotapes,
videodiscs, and computer course were sent to individual students.
