PYP EXHIBITION 2019

What is the Exhibition?
As part of the IB Primary Years Programme, students who are in
their final year of the PYP carry out a project called ‘Exhibition’
which

 reflects their learning

 addresses a real world issue or problem

 enables students to construct knowledge collaboratively and to


create awareness and possible solutions
Purpose of the Exhibition
Significant, in-depth, collaborative inquiry with global
significance

Demonstrate independence and responsibility

Practise reflection academically and socially

Take action

Exhibition Theme
“WHO WE ARE”
An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values;
personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health;
human relationships including families, friends,
communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities;
what it means to be human.
How best might we learn?
Expose students to a variety of issues and perspectives to build
knowledge and interest.
• news reports / documentaries
• community/local issues
• field trips
• experts in the field
• reflection on prior knowledge, learning and experiences
• planning tools to develop inquiry and ideas
How might we know what we have
learned?
Students communicate to others what they have learned through
their:

◦ contributions to their collaborative groups

◦ written pieces to present at Exhibition

◦ reflective journals

◦ Exhibition presentations
How will students be assessed?
Exhibition process is continuously assessed.

Continuous assessment

(mentorship, individual and group conferences)

Final assessment

(presentation, journal, written component)


Who will assess the exhibition?
◦ You will self-assess your work

◦ Year 6 teachers and mentors will assess the process

◦ A combination of staff and year 5 students and Form 1 from Le

Bocage students will assess the product

Role of the Student
◦ Participate in selecting possible issues or problems for further
inquiry
◦ Develop central idea, lines of inquiry and student questions
◦ Interact, collaborate, communicate, be responsible
◦ Demonstrate understanding of the five essential elements -
concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes and action
◦ Use a variety of sources and materials; bibliography
◦ Complete self and peer assessments
◦ CELEBRATE!!
How can parents help?
Parents can:
◦ žkeep informed about the process by reading newsletters
◦ žsupport and encourage their children
◦ žprovide knowledge or areas of expertise to any of the groups (if
requested)
◦ žhelp to locate resources – people, places, media and
information
◦ žbe mentors
◦ žcelebrate with their child’s learning by attending the final the
Exhibition.
Role of the Mentor
Each research group will be paired with a teacher who will guide
and support them in their research and Exhibition presentation.

◦ They will be meeting regularly

◦ They will help students set and achieve goals

◦ Mentor will regularly provide feedback in regard to the group’s


progress

JUNE
➢ Brainstorm questions, sharing passions, experiments
➢ Explore Transdisciplinary Theme, Research Skills and Topics
➢ Formation of inquiry groups; planning, goal setting, research begins
JULY
➢ Mentors assigned; begin mentor meetings
AUGUST
➢ Continue research
➢ Plan for authentic action, art piece and presentations
September
➢ Rehearse presentations, final action piece
➢ Exhibition For assessors: September
➢ Official Opening of the Exhibition: September 26,2019
