The Draft

That Frenzy Near Madness

1. A first draft is a rough sketch of our future piece of writing.

2. Sometimes our first draft may become the final one due to it being rather satisfactory, but
in most cases, it requires further work.

3. A first draft is a way to elaborate on the main points of our essay stated in our outline,
giving them a sample form.

The first draft is followed by the Second draft or the Final Draft depending upon the necessity
of the correction needed to the essay.

I will be talking about how to prepare First draft in my presentation.


Purpose of writing a Draft:

While an outline is needed to decide on What to write, the first draft is more about answering
a question: “How to write?” In the first draft, we shape our ideas out, and not simply name
and list them, as we did in an outline.

Since writing an essay directly is difficult task. So, some of the concrete steps to prepare the
draft easily are as follows:

1. The Concrete introduction: First step of draft

i) Warm-ups Are for leftover:

Warm-ups often tend to be lengthy and lacks accurate ideas. Therefore, while preparing the
introduction we must avoid warm-ups.
Rather we must focus on striking the main idea of our essay intensly.
There are some strategies of introduction-
1.One is not to write introduction at first
2. Second is to write introduction first which is done by many professional writers.
Some of the introduction technique can be discuss below:
1.Start with an Anecdote- to story related to our main idea
2. Start by asking a question-
3.Start with a striking Fact or Facts
4.Start with a quotation- “For God’s sake, get them off the beach!”
5. Start with a problem or dilemma-view points that contradict each other
6. start by considering the audience- focus on readers view points
And
other three final points are
1. Avoid the dictionary definition introduction- They are surfacial.
2. Write the Striking fact that gives the reader clear ideas.
3.Write your introduction briefly- make it short and sweet
ii) Visual Rhetoric

Visual rhetoric helps to create alternate view points, context , style , transition, structure and vivid
ideas and details for writing an introductory paragraph .
What to focus on while writing the DRAFT:

Once the introduction part is over the writer is guided by frenzy near madness. Although it is
an inspiring force it leads to despair and frustration. Thus , all writer should be concentrated
pre-writing and focus on during the writing a draft. Some of the suggestion for good draft are
as follows;
1. Most importantly, concentrate on ideas and details
2.Use your outline intelligently-
3.Move fairly quickly as you write the draft
4.Imagine speaking your draft to someone
What Not to focus on in the draft

1. Mechanics, spelling , or sentence structure


2.Word choice and style.

When You Get stuck:


some specific tips to get out of stuck in the draft:
1. Use brain teasers
2. Study your scratch outline and use of transition phrase
3. Re-read the last page you wrote
4.Reread your thesis and ask how the next point should relate back to it
5.Ask what your reader would want to know at this point
6. Skip the tough section and write it later
7.Write several alternative sentence to see which sounds best
Blocks during drafting:

There are different reason that causes block during drafting. Some becuase of fear of risk and
insecurities and others because of hesitation.
1. Fear of Messiness
(solution: don’t think too much about organizing and perfecting your draft)
2.Poor work environment-Physical discomfort like noisy environment, uncomfortable desk, too hot or
cold weather)
(Solution: Manipulate your environment so it helps instead of hinders you.)

Give a concrete conclusion:


The conclusion of the draft should be crystal clear statement that highlight key idea. The use of
concrete example, fact, anecdote , question or dilemma is the best way of conclusion.
