 BEFORE DISCUSSING THE MEANING OF NARRATIVE
TEXT,IT IS BETTER IF WE KNOW IN ADVANCE WHAT
IS MEANT BY NARRATIVE.NARRATIVE OR
INDONESIAN IS CALLED NARRATION IS A WORD
THAT HAS THE MEANING A SERIES OF EVENTS OR
SERIES OF EVENTS.WHILE THE TEXT OR TEXT HAS
THE MEANING OF WRITING.SO,NARRATIVE TEXT IS
A SEQUENCE OF WRITTEN WORDS,AND/OR IN A
SEQUENCE OF (MOVING) PICTURES.THAT
IS,NARRATIVE TEXT IS A TEXT OR STORY ABOUT A
SERIES OF INTERCONNECTED EVENTS,WHICH ARE
PRESENTED SEQUENTIALLY FROM THE BEGINNING
TO THE END OF THE STORY EITHER VERBALLY OR IN
WRITING,AND/OR WITH IMAGES (MOVING) WHICH
ARE ALSO PRESENTED SEQUENTIALLY
(CHRONOLOGICALLY).
The purpose of narrative text is to amuse or
entertain the readers.that is,the purpose of
narrative text (narrative text) is to amuse or
entertain the reader.by displaying interesting
conflicts in the middle of a narrative text,the
reader will be entertained and will become
recitals so that they will read the story to
completion.
 Orientation is the first part of narrative text located
at the beginning of the story or in the first
paragraph.the function of orientation is to introduce
to the reader or listener the character of the
narrative story,time,and setting of the story.the
orientation section is usually written briefly and can
answer who
question?(who?),what?(what?),where(where?),and/or
when?(when?).by answering 2 questions from the
questions,from the question,for example who?{who?}
and where?{where?},the orientation section of a
story can already be formed.
 The resolution section is about how the
characters from the story solve the problem
which is in the complication
section.Usually,there is more than one
resolution for one complication structure
Complication is the next paert of Narrative
Text.This section is a part that is awaited by
readers and listeners because this is the part
of the problem in the story arises so that
making narrative stories{Narrative Text}
becomes more interesting to read and not
boring.In making Narrative Text,the authors
may give one or more problems in this section
so that the text is more
interesting.Usually,problems that arise in this
section involve the main characters of the
text.
 In the coda structure is the last part
of Narrative text that contains the
changes that occur on characters and
lessons that can be learned from the
story.

 A legend is narrative of human actions
considered by the narrator and listeners to
take place inside human
history.Usually,legend is short
stories,traditional and historical ones done
in conversation mode. Some define legend
as folkore.

 LEGEND DANAU TOBA
 In one village of North Sumatera, there lived a poor farmer named Toba. One day, he went
fishing. Luckily, he got a beautiful goldfish. He carried it home then planned to cook it.
When he got home, the fish turned into a beautiful woman.

 The woman told him that she was cursed. She asked Toba to keep it as a secret. Toba
agreed it only with one condition that she would marry him. Then they got married and
soon had one child named Samosir. This boy liked to eat much food.

 One day, mother asked Samosir to bring lunch to father. On the way to rice field, he
stopped and ate most of food. After that, he gave the rest of food to his father. Toba was
very angry and shouted at Samosir “You, a fish kid, you are so greedy!” Samosir cried and
ran toward his mother. He asked mother why father called him a fish kid.

 The woman was really upset that Toba broke his promise. Mother and son disappeared.
Soon there were springs that caused a vast lake. It’s called Toba Lake. A land in the
middle of Toba Lake is called Samosir Island.
 Whereas fairy tales usually have folkloric
characters like
faries,goblins,eves,trolls,dwarves,gints or
gnomes,and usually followed by magic or
spells.

 The Fox and The Parrot
 One upon a time, in a morning, a Fox once saw a
parrot fly off with a piece of bread in its beak and settle
on a branch of a tree. The fox wanted the bread so he
thougt for an idea. Then he got one.
 “Good morning, Mistress parrot,” he gret the parrot.
“I heard your voice is the most beautifull among the
birds. let me hear but one song from you”
 The parrot became proud of herself, and start to
sing.But the moment she opened her mouth the bread
fell to the ground. The fox took the bread.
 The fox laughing. Then he said “That was all I wanted.
In exchange for your bread I will give you a piece of
advice for the future: “Do not trust flatterers.”
 A fable is an allegorical story briefly make
that moral point,on a tradisional way of
animal characters who speak and act like
humans.
A RABBIT AND TWENTY CROCODILES
 Once upon a time, a Rabbit wanted to cross a river, but he could not swim. He
had an idea, he saw a boss of Crocodiles swimming in the river. The Rabbit
asked he cross of crocodile.
 “how many crocodile are there in the river?” the boss of crocodile answered,
“we are twenty here”.
 “where are they?”the Rabbit asked for the second time. “what is it for?” the
boss crocodile asked.
 “all of you are good, gentle and kind, so I want to make a line in order. Later, I
will know how kind you are,” said the Rabbit.
 Then the boss of the Crocodiles called all his friend an asked then to make a
line in order from one side to the order side of the river. Fust then, the Rabbit
started to count while jumping from one crocodile to another: one…two…
three… four…until twenty. And finally, he thanked all Crocodiles because he
had crossed the river.
 In the fable we can find massage is, before act, we think to do first, so that we
can finish the difficult problem.
 According to Bani Davenport 1955,fictional
science fiction was based on development
of science,or on extrapolanting inner
tendencies society.Science fiction is prose
narrative of situations taht cannot arise in
the world we know.Some exmples science
fiction is as follows :
