Abstract
Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) is a simple electronic device used to
record votes in place of ballot papers and boxes which were used earlier
in conventional voting system.

The aim of the project is to develop & enhance the traditional voting
machine(E.V.M.) along with finger print recognising capability. With the
inclusion of biometric finger print sensor, each voter shall be allowed to
enter into the system only after being recognised and checked with the
given database of the system. Once the corresponding finger print
matched with information provided in the database, the voter will be
allowed to proceed for choosing their preferred candidates from the panel
buttons. The final vote is then displayed onto a LCD for the satisfaction of
voters. Addition of finger print recognition will enhance the reliability of
correct voting and avoid fraud.
Introduction
The use of EVMs and electronic voting was developed and tested by the
state-owned Electronics Corporation of India and Bharat Electronics in
the 1990s. They were introduced in Indian elections between 1998 and
2001, in a phased manner. Indian EVMs are stand-alone machines built
with once write, read-only memory.

Methodology
Micro controller consist of ATMEGA 328P
which is programmed to function as
electronic voting machine .

Power supply module have rectifier circuit with step down conventional
AC to DC supply (12V). Again its reduced to 5Vdc with help of voltage
regulator IC-7805.
Finger Print module is connected to Micro Controller input port to store &
authenticate the fingerprint of voter.
An alarm module is connected to output port of the Micro Controller to
alert, in case voter finger print is valid and enable the voter to cast his
vote.

Voter can cast his vote to preferred candidate with help of buttons
connected to input port of micro Controller.

Display Unit connected to output port of the Micro Controller shall confirm
about vote cast.

Merits of EVM With Finger Print
1. It eliminates the probability of invalid & doubtful votes
which in many cases are the root causes of controversy
& election petition.
2. It makes process of counting of votes much faster than the
conventional system.
3. It reduces to great extent the quality of paper used thus
saving a large number of trees making the process eco
friendly.
4. It reduces cost of printing as only one sheet of ballot paper
is required for each polling station.
5. It reduces transportation cost related to transporting
conventional ballot paper
Demerits of EVM With Finger Print

1. Always have doubt about manipulation in software &

hacking.
2. There is always chance of software malfunction.
3. Because of electronic unit, there is always chance of
hardware failure during transportation.

4. If EVM does not have Finger Print module, there is always

chance of fake voting (Any voter can cast several times).

5. Because of electronic circuit, EVM can be easily effected

by weather condition.
Conclusion

We have just presented idea or concept that how our

voting systems can be made in the recent future for “free
and fair” voting, with faster, secure, easy accessible and
reliable voting techniques.

Thus the advent of this biometric thumb impression voting

system would enable hosting of fair election in INDIA

This will preclude the illegal practices like ragging.

The citizens can be sure that they alone can choose their
leaders, thus exercising their right in the democracy.
