INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL
WARMING
WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?
 Global Warming is the increase in the temperature
of the earths atmosphere , caused by the increase
of certain gases.
 It is primarily a problem of too much carbon di
oxide (CO2) in the atmosphere which acts as a
blanket, trapping heat and warming the planet.
CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING
 TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION
1.The vast majority of vehicles on the road(and in the
air and water) are powered via fossil fuels, such as
Gasoline.
2.These vehicles release carbon and other pollutants,
affecting both air and water quality.
TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION

3.Green house gases track heat within the

atmosphere, which causes global temperatures to
rise.
CAUSES

 DEFORESTATION
1.Plants play an important role in regulating the
climate because they absorb carbon dioxide and
release oxygen.
CAUSES
2.Forests store enormous amounts of carbon,
essentially removing from the air and preventing it
from being absorbed into the atmosphere, and this
especially true of rainforests, which are even more
endangered than other areas.
3.Deforestation decreases biodiversity, which can
cause ripple effects throughout entire ecosystems.
CAUSES

 BURNING OF FOSSIL FUELS

1.When we burn fossil fuels like coal, and gas to
create electricity or power our cars, we release
CO2 pollution in the atmosphere.
2.Electricity generation is the main cause of carbon
pollution in Australia as 73%of our electricity comes
from burning coal and 13% from burning gas.
BURNING OF FOSSIL FUELS
3.Reducing the amount of electricity generated from
coal and gas, increasing the amount of electricity from
clean, renewable energy sources like solar and wind,
means less carbon pollution is emitted.
CAUSES

 USE OF AEROSOLS
1.Though some forms of aerosols have been banned in
many countries, other forms of them still are in wide
use.
2.These products are loaded with green house gases,
including CO2 and methane, as well as
chlorofluorocarbons, which erode the ozone layer.
3.Production of aerosols has increased throughout the
world.
