F LL
VS
• when an object is moving
solely under the influence of
gravity….
• In free-fall air resistance is
neglected.
Example of gravity
 Dropping a ball?  Yes

 Yes, once it leaves

 Throwing a ball? your hand
Experience tells you that objects speed
up (or accelerate) as they fall
 All objects
always
accelerate at
the same rate

 (when we ignore
air resistance)
Ignoring air resistance
4 Kinematic Equations
• Vf= Vi + at
• Yf= Yi + Vit + ½ at2
• Vf = Vi + 2a (Yf-Yi)
2 2
𝑽𝒊+𝑽𝒇
• (Yf-Yi)=( )t
𝟐
Remember the sign convention. Since g is moving
in downward motion, it should always have a
negative sign. Velocity that is going up is positive,
velocity that is going down is negative.
4 Kinematic Equations
• Vf= Vi - gt
• Yf= Yi + Vit - ½ gt2
• Vf = Vi - 2g (Yf-Yi)
2 2
𝑽𝒊+𝑽𝒇
• (Yf-Yi)=( )t
𝟐
Remember the sign convention. Since g is moving
in downward motion, it should always have a
negative sign. Velocity that is going up is positive,
velocity that is going down is negative.
