-Adjacent to Waiting Area
-First point of contact with Laboratory
-The department where specimens requiring analysis are received.

SPECIMEN COLLECTION AREA
-Also known as “Extraction Area” wherein phlebotomy and the other
extraction methods were performed
-The initial source of specimen in the lab
-Delivers specimen to the different sections for certain tests
-Located near the Core Laboratory

WAITING AREA
-The place where patients wait up for their lab test results or for
their turn in certain tests
-Located near the Reception Area
-Open space and easily observed from Reception Area
-Designed to provide considerations for persons with persons with
special needs like geriatric patients and PWDs

CORE LABORATORY AREA
-Has no barriers between different sections for open concept of
operations and supporting maximum efficiency of workflow and
resources in core laboratory space
-Matching sub-departments through related testing
-Maximized working space to accommodate efficiency
-Should contain the following:
● Hand Washing Station
● First Aid Cabinets
● Eyewash Stations and Shower
● Fire Extinguisher
● Proper Waste Disposal System

Common chemistry procedures include
testing for glucose, cholesterol, hormones,
and electrolytes.

and diseases of the blood
