DAY BY DAY WORK ACTIVITY
DAY: 1 SETTING OUT A BUILDING PLAN ON GROUND
A building is set out in order to clearly define the outline of the excavation and the centre line of the walls, so that
construction on the terrain and the can be carried out exactly according to the plan. The centre line method of setting
out is generally preferred and adopted. For setting layout of foundation excavation, a benchmark shall be established at
the site by a masonry pillar and connected to the nearest standard benchmark. Levels of the site should be taken at 5 to
10 m intervals depending importance of the building. The centre lines of the walls are marked by stretching strings
across wooden pegs driven at the ends. The centre lines of the perpendicular walls are marked by setting out the right
angle with steel tapes or preferably with a theodolite.

DAY: 2-4 Earthwork:

The earthwork is the cutting of earth for foundation purposes. The different kind of foundation used are isolated
footing and combined footing. To do the earthwork the described area of the building was cleaned properly and the
level was taken by Auto level . After cutting the earth at a desired level, the level is then measured again at the bottom
of the foundation to calculate the height and finally work out the volume of the cutting earth.
DAY BY DAY WORK ACTIVITY
DAY: 5-7 Aggregates and Quarry dust filling
Aggregates is a general term applied to those inert (that chemically inactive) material, which when bounded together by
cement, form concrete. Most aggregates used in this country are naturally occurring aggregates such as Sand , crushed rock
and gravel.Aggregates

DAY: 8-9 SAND FILLING

Sand cushion is provided below floor pcc .This will act as a granular layer between
floor pcc and backfill soil .Probably it helps in following :Improve subsurface directly underneath floor from considerations of
moisture. Helps in absorbing effects of temp changes on floor concrete without passing to the underneath soil. Helps in
absorbing effects of moisture changes of supporting soil without passing to the overlaid floor concrete vibration control to
some extent. Fill voids in soil and act as smooth surface for laying pcc.

DAY: 10-12 PCC

PCC-plain cement concrete of grades 1:5:10 or 1:4:8 proportion is used as leveling course in the foundation trenches to
act as level platform for r.c.c footing for columns / masonry footing for load bearing walls.it also serves as separating layer
between natural soil and footing so that any harmful chemical present in soil will not act on the footing. PCC has no structural
importance.in case of of trences or pits excavated than the required depth ,the extra depth should be filled with pcc of
required grade at the expense of contractor to the required level to place.
DAY BY DAY WORK ACTIVITY
DAY: 13-16 REINFORCEMENT BAR BENDING WORK:-
The Reinforcement work in Foundation has been taking place. The steel used in the Reinforcement work
are Fe – 500 (Confirming to IS 1786-1985). The 12 mm and 16mm steel rods are used for reinforcement works
in foundation. The Reinforcement works in foundation took place for 3 days.

FOOTING
The term footing is used in conjunction with shallow foundations commonly. A footing is
a foundation unit constructed in brick work, masonry or concrete under the base of a wall or a column for
the purpose of distributing the load over a large area. Footings can be of the following types.
• Spread or isolated or pad footing
• Strap footing
• Combined footing
• Strip or continuous footing
• Mat or raft footing
ISOLATED FOOTING
COMBINED FOOTING
DAY BY DAY WORK ACTIVITY
DAY: 11 SHUTTERING WORK:-
Formwork (shuttering) is a temporary mould to provide support to fresh concrete when placed in structural
member until the concrete has set. This helps the structural member to gain sufficient strength to carry its self-load and
load from other members. There are three types of shuttering. They are Plywood Formwork, Steel Formwork and
Aluminium Formwork. Steel Formwork has been used in the Foundation Area.

DAY: 12 CONCRETE IN FOUNDATION:-

Ongoing project they used Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) for all concrete works. The mix design of concrete
used is M25 (Confirming to IS 456-2000). The concrete mixture is poured into the formwork and is damped by using
vibrator for settlement of concrete.

DAY: 13 CURING AND REINFORCEMENT STEEL WORK:-

Curing is the process of maintaining satisfactory moisture content and temperature in freshly cast concrete for a
definite period of time immediately following placement.
DAY BY DAY WORK ACTIVITY
DAY: 14 SHUTTERING REMOVAL:-
The Shuttering work which was made in the foundation area was removed. A check is made whether the
concrete is fixed to the steel and errors are checked and corrected.

DAY: 15-16 COLUMN BOX FORMWORK:-

The column box is being fixed to the reinforced columns nearer to the foundation. The Steel Formwork
has been used for the column boxing.
CONCLUSION
The training in VEL Associates has taught me to relate the theoretical knowledge in the practical field and
knowledge on foundation , isolated footing and combined footing. The main aim of studies within this project
was to investigate how a structure is constructed within its desired properties. We get knowledge about the basic
& advanced techniques of building construction as well as saw the challenges which a civil engineer have to
face during construction i.e. labour problems, cost management, environmental challenges etc. We cleared our
many doubts regarding building construction
