Localization of Bearings

for PNR Trains

CONTRACT RESEARCH PROPOSAL
TITLE
Localization of Bearings for PNR Trains
SIGNIFICANCE
The results of the research can be the solution to the following problems
encountered by PNR with regards to the maintenance:
• PNR purchased bearings from abroad is too costly;
• PNR experiences delays in procurement as it requires more time leading; and
• Quality of the bearings produced locally can be improved in order to lengthen
service life.

OBJECTIVES
General Objective

◦ To develop a traction support bearing that would cater to the needs of PNR through
improved material properties and performance.
Specific Objectives
o To characterize the existing and new traction support bearing that PNR needs.

o To develop and test the improved traction support bearing prototype.

SCOPE OF WORK
DOST-MIRDC shall be responsible for:

a) Characterization of the existing traction support bearing;

b) Casting including heat treatment of the traction support bearing using the appropriate
equipment and machines;
c) Perform metallography, tensile test/strength test, impact test, and chemical analysis of
traction support bearing casting;
d) Coordinating the progress of the project; and
e) Preparing terminal report and other pertinent documents for the completion of the
project.
SCOPE OF WORK
Philippine National Railways(PNR) shall be responsible for:

a) Providing all the necessary information of the product as required by the project team;
b) Shoulder the cost of materials required by the project; and
c) Communicating with the project team if there are changes in any aspect of the design of
the parts.
PROJECT DURATION
The maximum project duration is 9 months after which all activities will cease
and the extent of accomplishment during the period will constitute that of the
project. The project will start upon signing of the Contract Research Agreement.
BUDGET AND ASSUMPTIONS
This project will have the following schedule of charges:
