AUTOMATIC COMMODE

CLEANER
Why do we need ACC?
 Cleaning commode is one of the most hated
household chore.

 It gets dirty on the daily basis and accumulates

bacteria and unpleasant odour.

 Manual cleaning of commode may also lead to

spreading of diseases due to bacterias present in
commode .

 There is a regular requirement of cleaning the

commode atleast twice a week .
This project attempts to propose a
possible solution to this daily life
problem by introducing a “fully
automatic commode
cleaner(ACC)”.
Why should one use ACC?
 Fully automatic.
 Saves human effort and time.
 Less exposure of humans to harmful
bacteria decreasing the chances of
disease.
 Self-cleaning .

Cleaning process in an ACC
ACC works on 3 steps cleaning process-
STEP-1:DOWN HELIX:
Brush undergoes a downward helical motion applying
detergent and scrubbing
STEP-2:UP HELIX:
Brush retraces its helical path washing with water
STEP-3:SELF CLEANING OF BRUSH:
Nozzle sprays water and brush rotates to clean itself .After
water supply is cut brush starts spinning to dry itself.
Detailed working of ACC
Working of an ACC can be understood by its
major working units :
1. Cleansing Arm Unit
2. Fluid Supply Unit : a) Water and Detergent Supply Unit
b) Hydraulic Pump Unit
3. Control Unit
1.Cleansing Arm Unit
Major components of Cleaning Arm Unit:
a) 2 motors: M1 & M2
 M1 : Big motor connected to gear box and
hydraulic arm assembly
 M2:small motor connected to cleaning brush
b) Gear box(for M1) : G1 & G2 gears.
G1:connected to motor shaft
G2:connected to rotating arm assembly
Function of gear box:
• Increases torque and decrease angular
velocity.
• So that more torque, less angular velocity can
be extracted from M2 .

c)Hydraulic Arm Assembly:

Responsible for the vertical motion of cleaning
brush.
Working of cleaning brush
Cleaning brush has 3 degrees of freedom-a,b,g.
A. a degree of freedom:
• Due to spinning of M2
• Spins the cleaning brush
B. b degree of freedom:
 Due to hydraulic cylinder
 provides vertical accessibility to the arm.

C. g degree of freedom :
 Due to M1
 moves brush 360 degrees round the axis (horizontal
accessibility).
2.Fluid Supply unit
Consists of two minor units:
1. Water and detergent supply unit
2. Hydraulic pump unit
WATER AND DETERGENT SUPPLY UNIT
MAJOR COMPONENTS:
a) Pump P1
b) Solenoid valves S1 & S2:solenoid
value regulates the opening/closing
of fluid flow in a value .
c)Venturi liquid injector : uses venturi method to inject
one liquid into another.

Simple venturi liquid injector

Venturi injector used in ACC
 Working: from diagram, as liquid 1 passes
through section 2- area decreases , velocity
increases and pressure decreases thus a
suction is created & liquid B thoroughly
mixes with liquid A.
d)Main supply
e)Detergent supply
f)Three pin spray
Use of ball and socket joint:
It will prevent transfer of rotational motion of
pipe 2 to pipe 1
Working:
1.sv1 is open and sv2 is closed: supply to venturi
injector is stopped by sv2 thus pump only sprays
water
2.sv1 , sv2 are open : water detergent mixture
comes out of the spray.
Hydraulic Pump Unit
Major components:
1. Pump P2
2. Directional control solenoid valve SV3
3. Pressure Relief Valve
3.Control Unit
 Controls and coordinates the overall working of all the
units
 Main component : IC Circuit Board
 Components its controls:
i. Motor M1
ii. Motor M2
iii. Hydraulic pump P2
iv. Main Pump P1
v. Solenoid Valve SV1
vi. Solenoid ValveSV2
vii. Directional control Solenoid SV3

project
 Making it ‘ fit to all toilets’
