threat to public safety

Need to  Middle and upper class : buy goods form them but unwilling to give them
space in their neighborhoods
Change  Commonly viewed as criminals and nuisances
Public  Either overlooked or looked down as something to be controlled

Perception  Politician consider them only at the time of elections in order to increase
their vote bank

An Eyesore to be removed
  Provides valuable services and support the small-scale industries from
which they procure goods

Their  It is convenient buying goods from them for middle and upper class
residents
contribution  Most visible segment of the informal economy

billion rupees yearly

They are after all, a human being and

have a right to livelihood
  A committee consisting of crusaders such as SEWA and associations like
NASVI should work together and formally register street vendors in a well
maintained database

 Biometric survey of vendors for licensing which would help in registering

and identifying them
Temporary  creation of night markets, which would fare well in cities or specific
Solutions - locations that have a good night culture

Suggestions  space creation – for example, Delhi, that has an open drain system, can
cover its sewage pathways and generate space

 Enrolling children of vendors in government schools or NGO’s

 Building toilet and waste disposal facilities

 Giving them basic training and skill development lessons

  Creations of shopping complex for street vendors

 The registered vendors will give a small amount of their income which they
will save by not paying bribes and illegal rents
Long Term  That amount can be used to construct such centers, in various parts of
