OBJECTIVES
• Identify the Tools, materials and equipment
commonly used in carpentry,
• Classify the appropriate tools, materials and
equipment,
• Demonstrate the proper uses of toos,
mterials and equipment, and
• Value the uses and impirtance of tools,
materials and equipment through group
sharing.
“Name me” (Puzzle picture)
• Divide the class into three groups.
• Give the envelop containing the puzzles and
the groups are given 5 min. to assemble it.
• Once they finished, each group must post the
puzzle picture that they assembled.
• The first group who finished will be given 10
points then 8 points for the next group then
last group will gain 6 points.

• Lumber – mainly used for structural


purposes and many other uses as
well as furniture and cabinetry.
• Nails – slender metal shaft that is
pointed at one end and flattened at
the other end and also it is a
fastening material.
• Lacquer- it may be transparent or has
a color that gives shimmer to the
finish of a product.
• Sand paper- used to remove material
from surfaces for smoother in
preparation of applying the finishing
touches.
• Wood glue- an adhesive used to
tightly bond pieces of wood together.
TOOLS
– Claw hammer- used to drive nails.
– Mallet- made of wood or rubber used to drive
other tools like chisel.
– Pull-push rule- used to measure long pieces of
wood.
– Ruler –a 1 foot rule used to make/ take a
measurement.
– Try square- checking the flatness and squares.
–Caliper- used to transfer
measurements from one rule to the
other work.
–Pencil- used to lay-out cutting lines.
–Chalk line- used to establish straight
line.
–Spirit level- testing the vertical and
horizontal surfaces.
–Plumb bob- check the verticalness of
the surface.
–Chisel- used to trim/ shape wood.
–Cross-cut saw-cut across the
grain.
–Ripsaw- cut along the grain.
–C-clamp- used to hold things
together.
–Bench vise- used the material in
place.
EQUIPMENT
• Sander- used for sanding the
furniture.
• Jigsaw used to cut especially on
irregular shapes.
• Circular saw- cut particularly on a
large panel stock.
• Electric drill- used to drill holes in a
material.
