Definition Of Logic

 - A proper or reasonable way of thinking about or understanding


something. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
 - The science that studies the formal processes used in thinking or
reasoning. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

Logical- relevant, orderly, and consistent.

 -reasonable thinking
Illogical- irrelevance, to disorder and inconsistency.

 Logic or dialectics is the practical philosophy of correct thinking.


Meaning of Correct Thinking

 Thinking is an act of the mind or mental operation that involves


 1. the working out of the previous thought,
 2. to attain related truth.
 Correct Thinking is the movement of the mind from one thought to another thought
necessarily connected with the previous thought.
 We may express an inference as follows:
 Every animal has senses.
 An oryx is an animal.
 An oryx has senses.
Correct Thinking And Logic

 Correctness implies right order, consistency, reasonable procedure, necessary


relationship and valid inference. Thinking must conform to certain valid rules and laws.
 Birds fly.
 The eagle is a bird.
 The eagle flies.
 Logical truth is the conformity or agreement of the mind with reality.
 Birds fly.
 The X is a bird.
 The X flies.
Logic As Science

• Science is knowledge, but not all knowledge is science. In a science our knowledge must be
• 1. sure
• 2. thru causes
• 3. systemized.
• Science is sure systematized knowledge through causes.
• Logic is a science. It investigates and systematizes data, draws and demonstrates principles,
explains and organizes rules and laws for correct thinking.
Objects Of A Science

 A faculty is any natural or specialized power for acting of an organism.


 Operation is the activity or act of a thing through a faculty.
 The material object of a science are the things that science deals with.
 The formal object of a science is the special or immediate viewpoint from which a
thing is considered.
 A formal medium is the light or vehicle by which a faculty attains its formal object.
