 CAN ASTROLOGY HELP US IN OUR DAILY LIFE ?
• This is like asking, can cow give us milk every day? You can get
milk from a mature cow in most of the days if you know the way.
• For this, you should know to milk a cow and go the right cow with
milk at the right time. If you have the right source, apply the
correct technique at the right time, you get what you want.
• Astrology is a tool and technique to get the best of what is in our
destiny. It can help you to enhance the level of success and reduce
the magnitude of failure. It can’t assure glorious success in every
case but ensure prevention of fatal failures in most of the cases.
• We Hindus have the panchangam in our houses and not many know
how o read and make use of the information given in it.
• Most of us avoid doing important things during Rahukalam &
Yamagandam only . We see if the day has sidda yoga or amirtha
yoga at he most. The daily rasi palan program in all TV channels
are very popular because people find it to be a useful guide. But to
fix a muhurtham, most people go to an astrologer .
 WHAT IS A MUHURTHAM & HOW TO FIX IT ?
• Muhurtham is an auspicious time (not necessarily a convenient
time) to perform an important activity. For going abroad, getting
married, joining a job, occupying a house, buying a car, you need
the muhurtham. That calls for a lot of calculations & consideration
of many factors which only matured astrologers can do.
• Getting a good astrologer who is not money minded is difficult
these days. Even you find one, how to ensure that he has not
made any serious mistakes in his calculation or judgment?
• How many people know that Rahukalam, Yamakandam, hora,
abhijit muhurha timings & durations are variable based on place,
sun rise and the duration of the day? The real good muhurtham
will be shorter than the auspicious lagna & some times is as short
as 6 min.. Following a muhurtha is more difficult than fixing it & if
you do, it pays a very rich dividend worthy of it’s efforts.
• There are many people who take pride in telling that they have no
faith in all these but are successful due to their strong horoscopes.
 FIXING & VALIDATING A MUHURTHAM
• Fixing the ideal muhurtham for an important event like marriage is
tough. One may have to wait very long which in today's life is not
practical. So it is better to fix an acceptable muhurtham & follow it.
• In an emergency & unavoidable situation, one should focus on
eliminating the durmuhurham or inauspicious days & periods like
chandrashtama ( Moon going thru the 17h star from the birth star) &
horas not favorable. Today you can easily do it with the help of web.
• Go to www.drikpanchang.com , take the curser to Muhurat and
click on your requirement. For instance Shubha hora. It will open up
a screen. Enter any place , say Mumbai & the date say 9/07/18 for
which you need to see the auspicious horas . See the next slide
• If you are under a compulsion to do an activity on a particular day &
have no choice, just choose the appropriate hora for that day based
on your activity avoiding Rahukalam & Yamakandam. To know the
timings of these periods you need to go back to the Muhurat screen
and click on purpose like Vivah Muhurat or Griha Pravesh.
 ELIMINATING THE BAD TIMES OR DURMUHURTHAMS
• If you want to see the auspicious date for say buying an office space,
go back to take the curser to Property purchase & click. It will open up
a screen with suggested dates. Enter the name of any city in the
world. Click on any highlighted dates or a date you want.
• Let us say you have entered Mumbai & 9th July ‘18, It will display
the calendar & panchang elements for that day. Click on Detailed
Dainik Panchang to view all muhurtha details like sun rise,
Rahukala, Yamakanda, Abijit Muhurtha, Tamil Yoga for this day.
• If you know your Rasi & Nakshathra, the thara & chandra balam for
you on this date can be seen with the time span. At the bottom of
that screan, you will also see the lagna timings with panchaga
sudhthi indicating good muhurtha periods.
• Eliminate all bad periods to get the auspicious Muhurtham. For
example, if you belong to kataka rasi & Aslesha star, the favourable
lagna for buying or occupying a property is Simha which is between
8:56 to 11:04 AM. We can fine tune this further using panchangam.
FINE TUNING THE MUHURTHAM
As mentioned earlier, the lagna with
panchaga shudhthi is Simha which
prevails from 8:56 to 11:04 AM. This
lagna is very auspicious as the
lagnesh Sun is in 11th house. Jupiter
aspects this as well as moon. Venus
is in the lagna itself which is good.

If you eleminate Rahukala & refer the

HORA table, it shows Mars hora from
9:28 to 10:33 AM and there after Sun
hora prevails. Though the texts don’t
recommend Mars hora for any
auspicious jobs , Mars is yohakaraka
for Kataka rasi & he is aspecting
Moon & lagna from a house where he
is exhaled. Hence if the place is going
to be used for any engineering
activity , this hora should be preferred
over Sun hora.
 OTHER IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR MUHURTHA
• There are a number of angles from which a muhurtha has to be
viewed to validate the degree of it’s auspicious nature. In all cases
there will be some compromise & It requires high levels of wisdom.
• Astrological texts recommend the preferred month, fortnight, Rasi,
thithi, star, lagna , planetary positions with respect to lagna &, hora
according to each activity. It is impossible to find a muhurtha
satisfying all these. If none of them is satisfied , the muhurha has to
be discarded. In this condition, if one has to do an activity where
nothing is favorable, abhijit muhurtha can be chosen.
• Gulika period is given as inauspicious. But it should be avoided
only for activities which we do no want to repeat. Similarly certain
thithis like ashtami & navamu are to be discarded only for journey.
• Tuesdays & Saturdays are avoided by South Indians while in
North India, even marriage muhurthas are fixed on these days.
• While certain times are considered bad or good for all, the
muhurha is a critical time chosen to suit an individual.
 CONCLUSION
• There is a saying in Tamil “ Nal seivathai nallavan seiyyan” which
means that a good date will do more good than a good man.
• One need not take the trouble of finding an auspicious time for each
& every activity to ensure success. It is enough if he knows to avoid
failures by identifying the bad time s & validate good muhurthas
with the help of net when an astrologer recommends.
• Teach our children to understand & appreciate the use of astrology
while making major changers or doing important thinks like buying
a house or car & travelling abroad. It is easier now with the help of
net. Our ancestors were not idiots to believe in astrology & vasthu.
They had a better understanding of nature & science than us
• There is a growing trend to fix marriages without verifying the
astrological match. This will lead to more divorces in the society. Let
us help people find astrologically acceptable alliances.

avoid doing important activities during inauspicious times.
