Introduction to Nozzle Holder Assembly (NHA)
A fuel injector injects high pressure
atomized fuel in combustion chamber of
engine at required amount.

Table: 2.1. Description

Fig.Injector Layout

Fig NHA components

Function of Injector components
Fuel inlet – It is a port through which diesel fuel is
injected via fuel pump at high pressure
Bar filter – The fuel gets filtered as it travels through
the bar filter.
Nozzle holder body – It connects fuel from high
pressure pipe to nozzle.
Spring – Compression of the spring gives the initial
force to get opening pressure.
Distance piece – It connects fuel from nozzle holder
body to the nozzle. It also locates the nozzle in correct
position and gives the desired tightness against leakage.
Shims – It is one the most important component
of the assembly which is used to get desired
opening pressure.
N R Nut – Holds the nozzle tight to the nozzle
holder body with a pre-determined torque value.
Nozzle – The nozzle is used to atomize the high
pressure fuel.

PROJECT TITLE: (1) FPY (first pass yield)
Analysis and improvement
Background of project
On line 4 assembly line there are following
workstation

NR-Nut Visual
Preassembly Pre-setting 1 Pre-setting2 FTB test OUT
torqueing inspection test
figure_assembly_L4_captured
1. PRE-ASSEMBLY:-The Nozzle Holder Body, Shim, spring,
Pressure Bolt, Distance Piece Are Assembled Loosely.
2. PRE-SETING:-on pre-setting work station , get
knowledge of pressure of pre-given basic shim.
3. NR-NUT TORQUING:-tight the NR-Nut 40-50 N-m and
send it for FTB test.
4. FUNCTIONAL TEST BENCH (FTB):-this test done for
1. Opening pressure.
2. Tightness
5. VISUAL INSPECTION TEST:-Inspect the part that
1. Proper rolling or not
2. Part damage or not
3. Part number
4. Go test and no-go test.
• On L4 various parts are run per day or per shift or per weak
and No of part get rejected at pre-setting.
• Various part get have issues of shim and some part get
rejected at FTB
• And very few part get rejected at visual inspection
workstation.
Procedure for finding which type of injector has
lowest FPY or highest rework+ scrap:-
• On excel fill the type of injector and their total good
part, total part, scrap+ rework
• Finding month wise data
• See month wise rework+ scrap %
• Analyze which part has highest rework on pareto chart
• After that finding month wise _part wise analysis
There are last 6 months analysis of different part:-

Fig.Part_wise_Month_wise Rework Analysis
OBSERVATION :
Reason for Rework + Scrap
1. Incorrect shim value On Pre-Setting Work Station
2. Deburring of nozzle not done.
CONCLUSION
So shorting this problem rework + scrap % can be
minimize to 0 % .

So following benefits would get after solving above

mentioned reason :
a) Smooth customer supply
b) High productivity
c) Low production cost per unit of part
d) Less time for completing the job
e) Extra cost saving
PROJECT TITLE:-(2) “QUALITY PACKAGING AUDIT”

Trolley
OCM Quality
Trigo having FG store
printer checking
parts

After Trigo Parts are sent in front of FG Store. There remains a

person for printing OCM and putting it onto Trollies. OCM is having
part number, quantity and a bar code that is scanned in FG store
for feeding and saving the parts details. After putting the OCM
Quality is Checked under QMM. There it is checked that the parts
are ok or not and also the quantity is checked. After checking
quality they put a seal on OCM showing that the parts are ok or
not. If parts are ok then it is sent to FG store for Final packaging.
Reason:-
1 Counting mistakes in Trigo
2 Multiple type of parts put in single trolley
3 Parts with OCM is taken under QMM and OCM printer put
another OCM ( a loss of parts that are sent in QMM)

Solution:-
Made a sticker (Q) when the parts will be taken under QMM
inspection it would be there on the trolley showing that the
parts are under QMM inspection so that the person who prints
OCM would not get confused.
