sustainability INTRODUCTION Our main objective is to develop a self sustaining home , which do not rely on any external energy resources such as grid power supply , LPG etc… This home involves a hydrogen generator for power supply, rain water harvesting , waste water treatment , bio-gas plant , solar panels and layered farming on terrace. HYDROGEN POWER SYSYEM The hydrogen generator can produce energy, which is much cheaper than fossil fuels. This is thanks to a perfect synergy between different physical and chemical processes that together produce hydrogen in a greenhouse-gas- emission-free and affordable manner. The technology behind H2 Energy Renaissance‘s generator is now patented. It is composed of basic metals, and water solution. What makes this technology better than everything that is out there now? Never before has hydrogen been so cheap to produce at almost any location where electricity, heat or fuel is needed. Our technology is a source of affordable, clean and carbon free fuel. RAIN WATER HARVESTING Rainwater harvesting offers an independent solution to regional water shortages by collecting precipitation – including snow – on a catchment surface, like a roof. From there, water is gravity-fed into a cistern, then channelled into a pump system (for water pressure) and filtered (for potability). Solar water heaters can be installed to take care of most, if not all, of your hot water needs; a backup natural gas or biodiesel on-demand water heater may also be used as a supplement. the flushwater from toilets, referred to as “black water”, is contained and treated in a solar septic tank. Black water can be funnelled to a drain field or used for outdoor irrigation for non-edible plants. BIO GAS PLANT We are also planning to include a bio-gas plant which can produce bio fuel for all the kitchen needs. Biogas is primarily methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) and may have small amounts of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), moisture and siloxanes. The gases methane , hydrogen, and carbon monoxide (CO) can be combusted or oxidized with oxygen. This energy release allows biogas to be used as a fuel; it can be used for any heating purpose, such as cooking. It can also be used in a gas engine to convert the energy in the gas into electricity and heat LAYERED TERRACE FARMING Our home also includes a rooftop layered agriculture which can provide the essential vegetables itself. The layered arrangement helps to harvest more in less area with small investment and the layers can be aligned such that the plantation receive sunlight during the whole day WASTE WATER TREATMENT SOLAR PANELS We need initial energy to perform electrolysis for the production of hydrogen gas. For that purpose we are using solar panels and batteries , where the solar panels are installed on the sunshade of the house. CONCLUSION Increasingly sustainable homes cannot currently be built more cheaply. Regulation is key, and a mixed approach of near carbon-free housing onsite and allowable solutions offsite may be the most cost- efficient way to reduce carbon emissions. A single energy standard would allow large-volume production for increased sustainability. Local authorities need a continuing role in ensuring that allowable solutions are used effectively and that sustainable places are promoted.
