Introduction
• Potatoes is a product that occurs in a few seasons of
the year.

• Its deterioration during storage is mainly due to

outbreaks.

• Inadequate preservation methods cause a

considerable loss of this product.

• Radiation is a method that can extend its useful life

Objective
To evaluate the effect of the treatment of irradiation to different
conditions in the potatoes with the purpose of diminishing the
growth of buds, loss of weight and increase in the reduction of
sugars during the storage, thus extending its useful life.
Analysis
Purpose of the research: Extend the shelf life in potatoes

Solution:
Problem:
Postharvest
Potato sprout
treatments

◉ Research: Use of different doses of gamma rays at certain post-harvest times to evaluate
their effectiveness
Analysis
• Doses of (0, 50, 100 and 150 Gy) were
applied on different dates (10, 30 and
50 days after harvest)
• We managed to avoid the growth of
sprout potatoes at doses between 50-
150Gy after 10 days post-harvest and
stored at a temperature of 8 ° C
Analysis
◉ In the research the main objective is
achieved, however, there are still
losses in the physical and chemical
properties of the potatoes
◉ To find the optimal treatment
conditions, it would be more advisable
to know the processing that this raw
material will take, in order to evaluate
the changes that may occur.
Conclusion
The treatment of potatoes with irradiation implies a
suitable method for the conservation, because after the
husk it allows to store at 8 ° C without growth of shoots,
while at 16 ° C, the tubers presented some shoots even
when doses of 100 Gy after 30 to 50 days. A better effect
of radiation is observed immediately after harvest at not
very high temperatures, since the lower outbreak, change
in reducing sugars, lower weight loss and greater loss of
ascorbic acid were observed in irradiated tubers
immediately after Harvest at doses between 50-150 Gy.
