 Mabayuan was derived from the Tagalog word “bayo” meaning “to pound”.
Hand pounding paddy is the old method of milling rice. The process of
pounding the paddy removes the husk and bran layers through the use of
mortar and pestle.
 The barangay was said to be the rice production area in the City
until the period of the US Naval Reservation Administration. It
distinctly identifies the Barangay to be Olongapo’s local rice
granary during post World War II era.

o Mortar and Pestle epitomized the


name of Barangay, “Malayan”. It
symbolizes the traditional hand
