introduction
 In an electronic warfare environment, the battle is
waged between communicating party and a jammer.
 The interest comes from the fundamental objective
of denying the successful transport of information
from the sender (tactical commanders) to the
receiver (the army personnel), and vice versa.
 Electronic attack is offensive part of EW.
 Electronic jamming applied to radio communication
systems of the enemy is called radio jammer.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY - ENVIRONMENTAL MBA PROGRAM

Introduction…
 The radio waves from (1.5-30) MHz is HF Band.
 HF sky wave radio frequency propagation is highly
sensitive to environmental characteristics; sunspot
number, month/season, time of day, receiver noise
environment.
 The radio waves in this band can travel along the
earth's surface, but only for limited distances,
depending upon the conductivity of the ground or
sea.
 Reflection of the waves from the ionosphere makes
HF radio transmissions over long distances possible.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY - ENVIRONMENTAL MBA PROGRAM

Problem statement
 Several solutions are currently under investigation in order
to control or disable communication systems, among which
the exploitation of space diversity.
 This is done by deliberate-transmission of interfering-
signals to disrupt the normal operation and the process is
called jamming.
 The problem statement will give us the opportunity to ask
which frequency band jamming is done before by our
electronic warfare department.
 VHF and UHF jammer are already done before by
communication EW department, so now we want to carry
out HF jammer.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY - ENVIRONMENTAL MBA PROGRAM

Objective of the project

 Understand and implement HF jammer signal propagation
through the ionosphere.
 Study the ionosphere properties.
 Understanding the propagation properties of HF signal
through Ionosphere
 Decide path loss, propagation distance, transmitter output
power etc.
 Finally we undertake device connection via: 2525/2550
arbitrary function generator, CODAN 3061/3062 power
amplifier and antenna.
 We adjust at specific frequency range and try to jam the
adversary communication link.

The Ionosphere Nature …

 When a radio wave reaches in the ionosphere then
its refraction, reflection or absorption may take
place.
 Refraction is caused due to the abrupt changes in the
velocity of upper part of radio wave as it enters in a
new medium
 The refraction of radio wave depends upon the
following factors:
 The ionization density of Ionospheric layer.
 The frequency of radio wave
 The angle at which the wave enters the Ionospheric layer.
