Interpreting Sex and The City

 I believe the creator’s

purpose behind this show
was to entertain viewers
through these women’s
daily lives where women
try to find love and stay
fashionable at the same
time

 I also believe they created

the show in order to try and
show people how it is okay
for women to have sexual
lives without being married

Critical Analysis of Sex and the City

 Janet M. Cramer’s Discourses of Sexual Morality in

Sex and the City and Queer as Folk talks about how
these women are free with their sexuality and they
don’t seem to care about what others make of their
sexual escapades

they-worked-out/?i10c.encReferrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8%3D&i10c.ua=1&i10c.dv=14
Critical Analysis of Sex and the City

 Campbell’s idea of women being the

sexual objects for men is reversed through
Samantha’s ideas that men are the sexual
objects for women instead

 Gail Markle’s article “Can Women Have

Sex Like a Man?”: Sexual Scripts in Sex
and the City” talks about Samantha as
being seen as the ideal “vamp” within Sex
and the City

Counter-Narrative to Sex and the City

 In real life, 3 out of 4 women

will have many fewer
sexual relationships than
previously shown on this TV
show

 Instead of going to
restaurants, women in real
life go to each other’s
houses more often to eat
and to talk with each other
