CHARMEC MC 605 DA
ANFO CHARGING IN ANHUI LILOU IRON MINE
A brief history
Rapidly developing economic situation in China forces mining companies to implement more efficient
underground mining methods. In practice it means increasing the level of mechanization in
underground hard rock mining. Many mines in China tried to introduce the foreign explosive charging
carriers and technologies already before 2009, however, none of them could adapt to the special
needs of Chinese Anfo explosives and satisfy the production requirements. As one of the leading
professional manufacturers of underground mining machinery, Normet established a subsidiary in
Shanghai 2008 (Normet Shanghai Trading), and in 2009, Normet organized a NST-NOy research and
development team, which started to investigate solutions to the challenges around charging
mechanization in the mining operations in China. As a result, Normet launched Charmec MC 605 DA
Anfo charger in 2010 to Chinese underground explosive market and increased the level of
mechanization and work site safety immediately. First unit impressed the customer Eldorado Gold
Baishan gold mine in Jilin province China.

Success in Anhui Lilou iron mine

In February 2015, Anhui Development Mine Co, Ltd Li Lou Iron Mine followed the new market
development trend and introduced Charmec MC 605 DA, a development and production Anfo charger.
Charmec MC 605 DA’s competitive technical performance, increased safety and cost efficiency are well
demonstrated and proven as it was tested for half a year and it is also highly recognized for the high
charging efficiency.

Charmec MC 605 DA is equipped with the Anfo tank fill system, hose pusher system, onboard air
compressor and a technology, which enables continuous uninterrupted production charging. On 325
meters under ground level at Lilou iron mine, there are up-holes in one ring with hole depth between
10-24 meters and hole diameter of 76mm. The actual explosive load charged per one head is about
1000-1200kg. The output of Anfo charging system in up-holes is 75kg/min. Charging process takes
about 40 to 60 minutes and compared to conventional charging method, it can save from 30 to 60
minutes.

Efficient 6m3/min onboard air compressor secures that pressure in Anfo tanks will remain on level 5,5-
6,5bar, which enables sufficient output and high charge density 5.2-6.5kg/m in hole. Remote controller
helps operator to adjust hose retract speed accurately and at the same time increase density and
decrease rebound. Operation of Charmec MC 605 DA significantly reduces labor used for charging
process. In Lilou mine operator need is reduced from 7-8 to 3-4 operators during production charging.
In addition to high mechanization and efficiency, Normet Charmec MC 605 DA also increases the
operator safety to the next level compared to traditional charging methods.

A way forward
Nearly ten years success in Chinese underground explosive market and demonstrated advantages in
Lilou Iron Mine prove that Charmec MC 605 DA can replace conventional chargers with better
technical performance as required for blasting and higher work efficiency along with increased safety
and cost efficiency. When underground mines go deeper, the work safety and advanced technologies
are getting more and more important. Chinese companies control the cost efficiency strictly to be able
to compete in the market. Therefore, it is well founded and argued to select mechanized charging over
manual charging. Charmec MC 605DA represents the development trend of the industry, which is safe,
efficient and environmentally friendly.
