What is GAD?
Gender and Development approach focuses
on the socially constructed basis of differences
between men and women and emphasizes the
need to challenge existing gender roles and
relations.
A development approach that seeks to equalize the
status and conditions of the relations between men
and women by influencing the processes and outputs
of policymakings, planning, budgeting,
implementation, and monitoring and evaluation so
they would deliberately address the gender issues
and concerns affecting the full development of
women.
What is SEX?
Sex is............................
An analytical category, sex distinguishes males
and females exclusively by biological characteristics,
for example, quantitative data are sex-dissagregated,
because the whole universe consists of two sexes, men
and women who are mutually exclusive and
exhaustive.
What is gender?

a sociocultural variable that refers to the
comparative, relational, or differential roles,
responsibilities and activities of males and females. They
rae what a society or culture prescribes as a proper roles,
behavior, personal identities and relationships. Gender
varies among societies, within societies, and over time;
they are not bound to either men or women.
Classification of gender
Let us see...... Is this gender or sex?
 women give birth, men don’t.
Caring of baby is the responsibility of women because they can breast feed babies.
Men have moustaches.
Women carry heavy loads.
Women are scatred of working at night outside their home.
Men’s voices break at puberty, women’s don’t.
Women are emotional and men are rational.
Most of the women have long hair and have short hair.

Gender Issues
Gender issue refers to any issue 7or concern determined
by gender-based and/or sex-based differences between
women and men. Gender issues include all aspects and
concerns related to women’s and men’s lives and situation in
society, to thw way they interrelate, their differences in access
to and use of resources, their activities and how they react to
changes, interventions and policies.
Gender Stereotyping
Stereotype is a fixed general image
or set of characteristics that a lot of
poeple believe represent a particular
type of person or thing.
GENDER EQUALITY
Known as sexual equality, it is the state of equal
ease of access to resources and opportunities
regardless of gender, including economic
participation and decision-making, the state of
valuing different behaviors, aspirations and needs
equally.
