Motivation Through Job Design
• Job Design
- Specifying the tasks that constitutes a job for an
individual or a group.
- A person will be highly motivated to perform if
he is assigned a job he likes.
Approaches in Motivating through the
use of Job design
1. Fitting people to jobs- routine and repetitive tasks
make workers suffer form chronic dissatisfaction.
In order to avoid this:
• Realistic job previous
• Job rotation
• Limited exposure
• Fitting Jobs to People- instead of changing the person, the
management may consider changing the job.

Motivation Through Rewards
• Consist of rewards which are materials and psychological
benefits to employees for performing tasks in the workplace.
Rewards may be classified into two:

1. Extrinsic
2. Intrinsic rewards

• Employees participation according to their job’s aspects
oftentimes carried up to the point where the task is
completed.

Specific activities identified where employees may participate:


• Setting goals
• Making decisions
• Solving problems
• Designing and implementing organizational changes

1. Quality control circles
2. Self-managed teams

1. A profit sharing or gain sharing plan
2. A long term employment relationship with good job
security
3. A concerted effort to build and maintain group
cohesiveness
