Introduction
What is
Evaporator
 Evaporator ? is a type of heat ex-changers used in HVAC and
heat transfer equipment industries. Evaporators are devices
where actual heat exchange takes place in refrigeration cycle.
The refrigerant entering the evaporator is nearly all liquid but
as it moves through the evaporator, it quickly reaches
its saturation temperature and is converted steadily into
vapour. The heat necessary for this change of state comes via
the latent heat of evaporation from the surrounding working
fluid which is to be cooled.
What is Flooded Evaporator?
 Flooded evaporator comes under recuperator type of heat
exchanger. They are special kind of Shell and tube heat ex-changer
mostly build for high capacity plants. The K-type of special shell
is used for Flooded Evaporator. In Flooded Evaporator shell
comprises of half the tubes which are immersed in chilled liquid
refrigerant and upper part of shell is kept vacant for trapping of
hot saturated vaporous of refrigerant. The boiling two phase liquid
flows on shell side while heating fluid flows inside the tubes. The
chilled liquid on shell side absorb heat from hot fluid flowing
through tube side and gets evaporated.
