“The time is

fulfilled, and the

kingdom of God
has come near;
repent, and believe
in the good news.”
(Mark 1:14-15)

Repentance and faith go together.

It is a double-action response. We
cannot just have one without the
other.
To just reform our We need to
believe in Him
life is an inadequate and in His plans
response to God. and promises.
To simply believe without doing anything
to reform our lives to be pleasing to God
is also inadequate.

Faith and a changed life should go

together.

If we are not willing to repent, we

are also not willing to trust in
Jesus.
The Greek word for repentance is “metanoia”, which
literally means a change of mind and heart, a change of
outlook.

It is not just a confession of wrongdoing. Rather, it

refers to a change in direction.

It is a significant change in the way you live your life:

dropping an old set of ideals and values by which you
live your life and adopting new ones.
Repentance affects the way you think and act, your
attitudes, motives, thought and behaviour.

Change requires new thinking

The battle for sin starts in your mind, not in your

behavior.

Think – Feel – Act

More specifically,
repentance means
recognition of our sinfulness
and turning away from sin,
evil, wrongdoing and turning
to a life of obedience to God
and having Jesus on the
throne of your life.
Repentance is not denying and covering up sin.

Repentance is not simply being sorry for sin

because we are afraid of consequences.

Repentance is not merely a promise to stop

sinning.

Repentance is not confessing sin.

Repentance is not a prayer.

There are specific sins we need to renounce.
These are serious sins that are totally
incompatible with a relationship with God.

Sexual wrongdoing - premarital sex, extramarital

sex, necking, petting, masturbation, homosexual
acts, pornography
Spiritualism and Occult – witchcraft, fortune telling,
Feng-Shui, Spirit of the glass, involvement in
non-Christian religions.
Drug abuse – drunkenness

Serious Crimes – murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery,

Corruption, abortion
Cursing, slander, gossip, lying
What must we do to repent?

Be Honest – Admit that we have sin in our lives.

Exercise Humility – We can’t change on our own.

We need God’s grace.

Renounce Sin – Actively turn away from sin and

decide not to do it again

Confess – Ask God’s forgiveness

Repentance only becomes
complete after turning
away from evil and
accepting Jesus as Lord.
Faith is belief in the
gospel, which is the
good news of
salvation in Jesus
Christ

Faith is both belief in

the messenger,
Jesus, and in the
message that He
brings.
Faith is a personal act and decision. It has several aspects

Definite act

Individual act

Deliberate act

Urgent act

Indispensable
act
What faith is not.
It is not
just a
feeling.
Rather, we
accept
God’s
word as
truth, no
matter
what we
feel.
Faith means not
just believing with
our minds (an
intellectual belief)
that Jesus is the
Saviour, but
believing in our
hearts that He
came to be our
personal Saviour.
I.e. having a
Personal
relationship with
Jesus.
It is not just a wishful thinking. It is not based on
illusions or personal desires, but on God’s word.
I am the way , the truth, and the life, No one comes
to the Father except through me. John 14:6

God has promised us new life. Faith is accepting that life and
letting God show us how to live it. We must be willing to do
whatever God want of us, and actually do it.
Acts 16:31.
“ Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your
household.” Hence, with repentance and faith, we have:

1. A promise of salvation from sin, Satan, and death.

2. A promise of forgiveness and eternal life with God.
