PULSE RATE

Pulse rate is the number of how many times your

heart beats per minute
PULSE RATE

The easiest places to measure your heart rate, according to the AHA, are:
 wrists
 inside of an elbow
 side of the neck
 top of the foot
PULSE RATE

 For an accurate reading, put two fingers over one of

these areas and count the number of beats in 60
seconds. You can also do this for 10 seconds and multiply
by six, which may be easier.
PULSE RATE

Your pulse is lower when you are at

rest and increases when you exercise
(more oxygen-rich blood is needed
by the body when you exercise).
LOWERING PULSE RATE

Sitting down and taking slow, deep

breaths can generally lower your
heart rate.
WHAT IS A NORMAL PULSE ?

Normal heart rates at rest:

 Children (ages 6 - 15) 70 – 100 beats per minute
 Adults (age 18 and over) 60 – 100 beats per minute
PULSE RATE

 There are a large number of reasons for the heart

to beat faster than expected, from simple
physiological causes, such as excitement or physical
activity, to illness, such as a fever, and a range of
diseases of the heart or metabolism.
You should always aim to take good care
of your heart. This includes doing things
like exercising regularly, eating a heart-
healthy diet, and maintaining a healthy
weight.
